Growth Mindset In Whitehouse we use two words which

are—growth mind-set. This may be new vocabulary to you however, we try our best to apply this to all our learning.

What is growth Mind-set? Growth Mind-set is where you are dedi-cated to do something that you find challenging and never stop trying. If you have a Growth Mind-set, it means you persevere through challenges, never giving up. It can be challenging to adopt a Growth mind-set so here are some examples of where you can apply it to your learning and everyday life.

Vocabulary Instead of: I can’t do this It’s too hard I give up My friend can do it Say: I can’t do this yet I’ll try a different strategy Maybe I can ask for a bit more help I can learn from them

What Growth Mind-set in-cludes:

Having another go Being an independent learner Using resources to help your learning Asking a friend Not being overwhelmed by challenge Persevering when faced with problems Building your resilience

If you like funny and silly books, then this is the book for you. It’s a book about these ugly people who loved playing pranks on each other (quite good for old people)! They are monsters. You would like this book because they play pranks on each other. Take a look at the book, you won’t regret it! -Bella

The downside is Nikki’s frenemy, Makenzie Hollister, has managed to switch from going to Paris for 2 weeks, to going on tour with Nikki’s band, even though she is not part of the band. Nikki is determined to stay out of Makenzie’s way to avoid all the drama, until she finds out that her roommate is Makenzie. Will Nikki survive her biggest dream, going on tour with the Badboyz, as it quickly goes from awesome to awful? If you like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates this is the book for you. Music Review Artist: Katy Perry We would rate her songs 10/10 because she puts pride and effort into all of her songs. Katy Perry is a national superstar. She is inspirational because she is a good singer and makes children want to accomplish their dreams, to be famous like her. Some of her most popular songs are: Roar Firework Swish Swish Chained to the Rhythm -Bella & Bella

Demon Dentist

By David Walliams

Darkness has come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find… a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of ear-wigs creeping and crawling under their pillow.

Evil is at work! But who is behind it all?

BEWARE THIS IS A “HORROR STORY.”

Whitehouse Sports Section After School Sports Clubs Football Club

Mr Mullen runs football club and takes them on the trips. In football club they learn new tricks and do a club after school. Some year 6 children who have now left our school attended the club last year and loved it. For warm ups they practise with foot work and go into teams. In the club you have 11 players each side which includes the goal keepers. You have people playing in defence midfield and strikers. In the re-cent tournament year 6 and 5 went to Stockton town both boys and girls came 3rd.—Katie + Ruby. Running Club Mrs Skilbeck ran a running club one night a week this term where the children practiced their running tech-nique and built up their stamina by completing a variety of drills and games before they competed at Cross Country and sprinting events in Athletics.

Multi-Sports Club Mr Mullen and Mr Messenger ran a multi sports club this half term where the chil-dren took part and learned the rules for a variety of sports such as Danish longball and dodgeball. Yoga + Dance Club Mrs Skillbeck ran a yoga club this half term where children learned the tree pose, downward and upward dog poses as well as meditation where they imag-ined that they were in different places. They also practiced different breathing techniques.

Y5 Swimming

During this term the Year 5 children have been going swimming each morning for a week at St Bede’s Secondary School. The children prac-ticed stokes such as front crawl, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly. They also developed much more confidence in water and most children even swam in the deep end where they could not touch the floor! The chil-dren had one lesson on lifesaving skills where they had to collect a heavy brick from the swimming pool floor and tow each other from one side of the pool to the other. A lot of children managed to achieve their 25 metre badge which was a great achievement. Some children in Year 5 can even swim a mile, which is 64 lengths! The Year 5 children thoroughly enjoyed going swimming each morning and can’t wait to go again! The Teachers were so proud of their achievements.—Lucia.

‘I really enjoyed the lifesaving

because I want to be a

lifeguard when I’m older–

Lucia

Y1 Multi Sports Festival Class 11 Meditation In class 11 a lady called Cara came in to school. She did a sunshine warm up then we all laid and relaxed our whole bodies for 5-10 minutes. Here are some pictures. Class 11 had a lovely relaxing afternoon. — Lucia During this term, the Year 1 children

participated in a Multi-Sports festival at Durham University’s Sports Centre in Stockton-On-Tees. The children took part in a variety of activities which in-cluded dance, balancing beanbags, skipping, ribbon twirling, hoola hooping and relay races. The Year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in these activities one afternoon.

Competition Highlights Tag Rugby Two teams of boys and one team of girls entered the Tag Rugby competition at Grangefield this year, with one of the boys team coming 3rd place—an amazing achievement. All children played with 100% effort and showed sportsmanship throughout the day. A brilliant day enjoyed by all!

Athletics During the athletics tournament, we com-peted in a variety of different events against lots of different schools. This included triple jump, long jump, javelin throw, vertical jump, speed bounce, obstacle relays and running relays. The children performed bril-liantly in the first cluster round and qualified to the Stockton finals. Unfortunately, we finished 4th in the Stockton finals and didn't qualify for the Tees Valley finals however every child did Whitehouse proud!

‘Tag Rugby competition

was fun because we got to verse other

schools’– Jasmin.

‘I enjoy sports competitions because you

get to work as a Whitehouse

team– Freddie.
