Mystical trend direction is based on the phenomenon of fantasy story telling. Fantasy books are popular because they are imaginative and offer an escape from reality. In fantasy you can become a completely different race or being: bird, horse, or alien--you name it.

As referenced on Wikipedia, Fantasy is a genre of fiction that commonly uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. Many works within the genre take place in imaginary worlds where magic is com-mon. Fantasy is generally distinguished from the genres of science fiction andhorror by the expectation that it steers clear of scientific and macabre themes, respectively, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three: all are sub-genres of speculative fiction.

In popular culture the genre of fantasy is dominated by its medievalist form, especially since the worldwide success of The Lord of the Rings and related books by J. R. R. Tolkien. Fantasy has also included fairy tales, wizards, sorcerers, and witchcraft in events that avoid horror. In its broadest sense, however, fantasy com-prises works by many writers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians, from ancient myths and legends to many recent works embraced by a wide audience today.

Harry Potter has morphed fantasy into a world-dominating superpower. However, deep down beneath the magic and mysticism it is more than just a fantasy series. In a post on www.marginalrevolution.com, Tyler Cowen writes, “Most of all, the Harry Potter series is a social phenomenon. It’s not mainly about the books. It’s about kids—and often adults—sharing a common reading experience.” This common expe-rience is prevalent in several key elements. Those elements are adventure, theme, and social relevance. When mixed together they make up the general appeal that the books have garnered.

Fantasy is a vibrant area of academic study in a number of disciplines, such as English, cultural studies, comparative literature, history, and medieval studies. Work in this area ranges widely, from the structuralist theory of Tzvetan Todorov, which emphasizes the fantastic as a liminal space, to works on the connections (political, historical, and literary) between medievalism and popular culture.

The movie Avatar is a good representation of fantasy combined with technology. Avatar combined human and technology to create something magical with the use of advanced motion capture technology. Innovations included a new system for lighting massive areas like Pandora’s jungle, a motion-capture stage or “volume” six times larger than any previously used, and an improved method of capturing facial expressions, enabling full performance capture.

In December 2006, James Cameron¬, Director and Producer described Avatar as “a fu-turistic tale set on a planet 200 years hence...an old-fashioned jungle adventure with an environmental conscience that aspires to a mythic level of storytelling.” He also goes on to say, “This movement is definitely here to stay especially as long as there are computer programmers/software people that can merge the human aspect.”

Mystical captures this trend direction by using mystical creatures like Pegasus and uni-corns as the main icons. Berry pinks and deep Avatar inspired teals help to make Mysti-cal a reality.
