I/O devicesData collection can be done with local I/O or distributed over industrial serial and Ethernet networks. Distributing the I/O reduces cabling costs by positioning the I/O modules closer to the sensor. These I/O modules need to support multiple serial and Ethernet protocols and are available in IP20 or IP67 form factors.

Protocol convertersSending data from the field back to the controller is not always easy. The data might be standard serial, but RS232 and 485 have very strict cabling restrictions for upgrading applications, and it is not cost-effective to replace all the I/O devices. Device servers and protocol converters are ideal in these situations, allowing you to get this data onto more flexible Ethernet networks.

IO-LinkThis technology is relatively new, but the number of products that use IO-Link interfaces is growing rapidly. This commu-nication standard creates new application opportunities and constitutes an investment in important concepts, such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). By definition, IO-Link is an open-source, serial point-to-point communication protocol for connecting sensors and actuators to an automation system.
