ABSTRACT

Automatic Car Washing System

Key words: car washing, machine, water recycling.

Automatic car washing system is very common in developed countries. Car washing system is

usually associated with fuel filling stations. It consists of large machines with automated brushes.

Automatic car washing system is fully automated with different stages of rinsing, shampooing,

washing, drying and waxing. Different types of car washing systems are discussed in this report.

This system uses large quantity of water, thus water recycling plant is also an integral part of the

automatic car washing system. I studied some of the car washing systems in GUJRAT; I hope

this report will be useful to understand the basics of automatic car washing system.

INTRODUTION ABOUT AUTOMATED CAR WASH SYSTEM

Automatic Car Washing System

B.S.PATEL POLYTECHNIC Page 8

Chapter 1

The first automatic car washes appeared in the late 1930s. Automatic car washes consist

of tunnel-like buildings into which customers (or attendants) drive. Some car washes have their

customers pay through a computerized POS (point of sale unit), also known as an "automatic

cashier".. The mechanism inputs the wash PLU (Price look-up codes) into a master computer or

a tunnel controller automatically. When the sale is automated, after paying the car is put into a

line-up often called the stack or queue. The stack moves sequentially, so the wash knows what

each car purchased. After pulling up to the tunnel entrance, an attendant usually guides the

customer onto the track or conveyor. At some washes, both tires will pass over a tire sensor, and

the system will send several rollers. The tire sensor lets the wash know where the wheels are and

how far apart they are. On other systems the employee may guide the customer on and hit a

'Send Car' button on the tunnel controller, to manually send the rollers which push the car

through.

When the customer is on the conveyor, the attendant will instruct the customer to put the vehicle

into neutral, release all brakes, and refrain from steering. Failure to do so can cause an accident

on the conveyor. The rollers come up behind the tires, pushing the car through a detector, which

measures vehicle length, allowing the controller to tailor the wash to each individual vehicle. The

equipment frames, or arches, vary in number and type. A good car wash makes use of many

different pieces of equipment and stages of chemical application to thoroughly clean the vehicle.

1.1 Automatic Car Washing System

From above system which we are working on In-bay automatic car washing system.

1.2 Working of Automated Car Washing System:

An in-bay automatic car wash is a type of car wash where the car wash customer pays for their

wash either at the gas pump located at the nearby gas station, inside a convenience store, or at a

pay station that is located in front of the bay. The customer then drives their own vehicle into a

single bay, sits in their vehicle, and a machine goes over and around their vehicle, washing it for

them. In-bay automatics are also called “rollovers” because the equipment rolls back and forth

over the vehicle.

Corrosion

Drying

For conclusion of the above problems we are doing this project in Car Box.

‘Car Box’ established in Ahmadabad located at S.G.Highway. They use SONI AUTO

SYSTEMS, set up by experienced individuals having worked in India for over 12 years, and

want to introduce innovative car wash concepts in India under a brand name of CAR BOX with

the intension of developing an organized CAR WASH industry.

The Machines are installed throughout the length and breadth of INDIA. They are approved

suppliers of car wash machines to MARUTI, TATA MOTORS, Volkswagen and more. They

have supplied Automatic bus Washing Machine to 27 States road transportations at rate contract.

They are exporting them machine. Their car wash system are approved and installed at upgraded

retail outlets of India Oil Corporation, Bharat petroleum corp., Hindustan petroleum corp. Their

wash system are installed at factories of Indian car manufacturers like TELCO,DAEWOO

Motors & MERCEDEZ BENZ their dealerships and privet garages.

Chapter 2

Automatic car washes are generally among the most efficient of the commercial uses in the local

community. In fact, the efficient technologies and practices adopted in recent years by many in

the car wash industry have gone a long way toward minimizing the use of water in these

facilities. An efficient automatic car wash usually uses less water per vehicle than one would

consume by washing the same car at home.

2.1 Working of Automatic Car Washing System:

In this, car is parked on the platform, car is manually prewashed by jet spraying at high pressure

and under chases wash. Further ph neutral shampoo is spread in form of foam, structure moves

on rails along with rotating brush which cleans the car from top as well as from sides. Drying is

done manually with cloth. Water used is directly dumped into sewage.

The following are the approximate consumption in system:

Power

Cars wash 7.5kw

Drying unit 16kw

Under chassis wash 5.5kw

Maximum power 16kw

Water (approx)

Cars wash 145ltrs

Under chassis wash 150ltrs

Approx consumption (par car)

Shampoo 65ml

Wax 20 ml

Wash cycle time 15/20min

Drying cycle time 5/10min

Water patches

2.4Problem Definition

Brush Patches:

In car wash when car is cleaned with the rotator brush it leaves it’s pattern on car body, also

known as brush patches.

Corrosion:

Corrosion is the gradual destruction of material, usually metals, by chemical reaction with its

environment. This means electrochemical oxidation of metals in reaction with an oxidant such

as oxygen. Corrosion degrades the useful properties of materials and structures including

strength, appearance and permeability to liquids and gases.

Wastage Of Water:

In the system large amount of water is required which after use goes in sewage, can’t be use

again, also known as water waste.

Water Patches:

Water spots are caused by minerals deposits that etch the outline of a drop of water into your

vehicle’s paint. All water has minerals, whether it from the hose or the sky as the water

evaporates, the minerals remain on the surface and they will eventually create water spots or

water patches.

Manual Jet Spraying:

Worker has to spray water manually in whole system, due to which some part miss to wash and

sometime it sprays on part which is once washed which cause to waste of water.

For above problems some implementation is discussed in Chapter 3.

In new improved design we have done some important changes which is more reliable, less time

consuming, efficient, water conservative and eco friendly considering customers satisfaction.

Improved Autocad design is show in Fig.3.1.

3.2 List of Implementation

We have decided some important changes and replacement in the system as follows:

Machine body material

Brush material

Drying systems

Nozzles

Recycling system

FUTURE WORK

We will introduce new brush material which will not create patches.

Proper water recycle system will be added which will conserve water and eco-

friendly.

Better dryers and automated high pressure pre-wash which will reduce washing

time.
