EPRI Recommended Work Practices
The BHI Energy Scaffold Management Program Was Specifically Designed To Enable Our CNPP Clients The Ability To Accomplish The Following Strategic Objectives:
Identifying logical and meaningful methods that can be implemented to significantly mitigate the number of craft personnel typically utilized during outages & reduce radiation exposure
Finding unique methods to better accomplish labor & dose intensive work activities by designing and fabricating custom scaffold packages that are utilized for temporary work activities
The ability to provide tailored custom seismic staging structures that can be fabricated in a timely and cost effective manner for quick & efficient installation in safety related areas
Support the utilities ability to address their long term program for on going dose reduction initiatives as required to comply with Collective Radiation Exposure (CRE) annual planning
Finding alternative methods for vertical access to reduce plant dependence on craft construction of scaffold structures that results in the installation of fewer staging structure

10
Utilized when providing clients with Deltak fabricated custom seismic packages that will be utilized in safety related areas
AQPP is modeled closely after the universally utilized ISO-9001 qualification program
Comprised of in-depth project traveler that contains over thirty concise signature steps for completion of key criteria
Includes the client approved engineering drawings along with the detailed fabrication drawings for field use by craft
Closely tracks raw material ordering and delivery process using formal purchase orders and vendor supplied MTR’s
Insure that craft workers are properly qualified and trained to perform their particular fabrication tasks
Fabrication traveler is used to track and validate that raw material parts are properly made & welded
Allows for on site client progress inspections anytime during the manufacturing process to authenticate contract compliance
Outside level three inspector is used to perform hands on inspection & validation of all seismic parts prior to shipment
Contaminated Scaffold Management Program (CSMP)
Long term sea van container storage
Removal and Disposal of old Tube and Clamp material
Full decontamination and disposal support services
Ability to free release rented Excel material upon completion of outage or rental needs

Historical Myth Busters Regarding Excel Modular System Scaffold
The Craft Will Never Take Ownership and Use the Material
Material is currently being used at multiple sites with high success rate. Craft familiar with
Excel Scaffold who work at facilities that does not have Excel promote it’s ability to enhance
the scaffold program.
Can Only be Used in Open Areas, Will Not Fit in Tight Spaces
Excel has a variety of components that has been specifically designed to accommodate tight
areas (i.e. expanding plank bearers, cantilevers, trusts)
Cannot be Qualified For Use in Safety Related Areas
Excel Scaffold has been seismically qualified by Wyle Labs in New Mexico and meets all
criteria for safety related area use if constructed using guidelines of technical manual.
Just too Darn Expensive for Us to Use at Our Plant
Initial cost for rental is dramatically offset when lower labor cost are considered
Too Difficult to Install as Compared With T&C
Excel only requires leveling of initial level. Each successive level is already level due to pre-
manufactured design of increments of 5 ¾”. No hand tools are required for connection of
components and there are components that are specifically designed to reduce installation
time.
It is Not Compatible with Tube & Clamp
Excel tubing ID is the same as traditional T&C material. Excel has also specifically designed
connection / transition components that make it easy to convert from T&C to Excel and in
reverse.
Too Much Training Required for Implementation
Extremely User Friendly, Difficult To Put Up Wrong. Employees can be trained to erect,
modify, and remove Excel in less than 8 hours. Individuals are given training and with
guidance of the Excel technical manual, builders are able to construct scaffold which is
already engineered to meet most applications.
Requires Too Much Room for Storage
Excel scaffold components are engineered to be stored in racks which can be stacked. Each
of the racks consist of end units and supplemented by component being stored.
Unions Training Centers Will Not Support Training Process
There are already several unions that perform Excel Training. They have adopted the same
philosophies that exist in the CNNP environment (i.e. safety, fall protection anchorage
points, dropped objects prevention, and prevention of hand injuries). They recognize the
benefit in the use of Excel Scaffold in helping to meet these important requirements.
Too Hard To Decon and Free Release From RCA Areas
There are less small components with inaccessible surface areas to be surveyed. BHI Energy
has teamed with Unitech Services to provide decontamination services if the utility desires
support.
