AUTOCROSS TECHNICAL INSPECTION PROCEDURES(Updated from 2012 Rule Book)Note: entry fee can be refunded if vehicle fails to pass technical inspectionPer SCCA (if any questions, see rule book available online):

Car must be eligible 3.1 in the Rule Book:

Unstable vehicles with a high center of gravity and a narrow track, including SUVs, minivans, and 4WD pickups, must be excluded. Examples of such vehicles are listed in Appendix A. Extra caution should be exercised with non-traditional vehicles (e.g., trucks using racing slicks) (Note: there are Rollover Potential Guidelines available in the Rule Book)Checklist:

3.3.1 Driver Restraints (Seat Belts) Seat lap belts are required in all cars, and must be installed in cars with passive restraint systems that do not include a lap belt. Installation and the use of shoulder belts or harnesses is strongly recommended, however non-factory upper body restraints may only be used in open cars, cars with targa-tops in the open position, or cars with T-tops in the open position when two conditions are met:

A. The roll structure must meet either the requirements of Appendix C

or the Club Racing General Competition Rules (GCR) 9.4.

B. The top of the roll structure may not be below the top of the drivers

helmet when the driver is in the normal driving position.3.3.2 Roll Bars Roll bars or roll cages are strongly recommended in all cars. A roll bar meeting the requirements of Appendix C or a roll cage meeting the requirements of Section 9.4 of the Club Racing General Competition Rules (GCR) is required in all A Modified (AM), B Modified (BM), C Modified (CM), and F Modified (FM) vehicles and all open cars in Prepared Category, D Modified (DM) class, and E Modified (EM) class. For open cars in the Stock, Street Prepared, Street Touring, and Street Modified categories, the roll bar or roll cage height may be reduced from Appendix C or GCR 9.4 requirements to the highest possible height which fits within an installed factory-specified hardtop or convertible top. The roll bar or roll cage height may also be reduced in the same manner for cars in the Prepared category with a full original equipment windshield assembly and a standard (as defined herein) hardtop which has been

bolted securely in place.

Double-hoop roll bars must fasten properly to the chassis/unibody as

required by Appendix C, particularly at attachment points in the center

of the car.Inspection Requirements:

FORMCHECKBOX 1) Loose Items All loose items, inside and outside the car, must be removed. Hand held items, such as but not limited to, cameras and cell phones are considered loose items. FORMCHECKBOX 2) Passenger Seat Back Passengers seat back and all cushions, bolsters, headrests, etc. must be secured. All allowed aftermarket replacement seats (i.e., driver and passenger) must be securely and safely mounted. Special care should be taken when using other than OE mounting points and/or fabricated bracketry. FORMCHECKBOX 3) Cameras (if any) Any cameras, if installed, must be securely mounted to withstand loads from driving maneuvers. The camera may be installed either inside or on the outside of the car. In either case, its mounting method and position must not interfere with driving or pose an additional hazard to driver, passenger, or course workers. FORMCHECKBOX 4) Snap-on hubcaps must be removed as well as fender skirts and wheel trim rings. FORMCHECKBOX 5) Wheels Wheels must be safely affixed. They shall not be reversed so that the lughole taper does not mate with the chamfer of the lugs. All studs and lug nuts must be present and functional.11) No broken or missing spokes or more than one loose spoke per wheel shall be permitted in wire wheels. No cracks shall be permitted in disc or cast wheels. Other than standard parts as defined by these rules, non-metallic wheel construction is prohibited (FSAE cars are exempt from this requirement since the FSAE rules allow non-metallic wheels).

FORMCHECKBOX 6) Tires Tires must be in good condition, with no cord or belts showing or cracks in the tread or sidewall. Each tire must have measurable (i.e., exhibiting positive measurement values) tread depth at no less than two points on the tire which are 180 degrees apart around the circumference, and which are within the center one-half of the tread surface that normally contacts the ground. Tires may not have cord visible at any time during competition. For categories other than Prepared and Modified, tires may not be re-grooved, nor may grooves be added to the tread pattern where none existed on the original tire.

FORMCHECKBOX 7) Seat belts - Seat belts (and harnesses if used) must be properly installed with attaching hardware, in good condition, secure, tight, and in compliance with Section 3.3.1. FORMCHECKBOX 8) Throttle return action - shall be safe and positive. FORMCHECKBOX 9) Fluids No excessive fuel, oil, water or brake fluid leaks should be observed. For all Prepared and Modified category vehicles, engine crankcase and radiator overflow/breather lines must terminate in containers of at least one quart capacity. These containers cannot be vented into the driver/passenger compartment. All Prepared and Modified category vehicles must be equipped with an engine oil vent tank and an engine coolant vent tank if coolant is used. Vent tanks are not required with systems which are completely closed, i.e. have no venting to the atmosphere. All oil lines passing through the driver/passenger compartment shall be made of metal braided hose or equivalent (e.g., Nomex, Kevlar, or nylon-braided hose) with AN Series threaded couplings or entirely covered and protected with a metal cover (this does not apply to the small oil lines used for mechanical oiling system gauges). FORMCHECKBOX 10) Steering must be in good operating condition, no spinner knobs.11) See 5) Wheels above

FORMCHECKBOX 12) Brakes Brakes must have an adequate pedal, sufficient fluid in the master cylinder, and no apparent hydraulic leaks under pressure. Vehicles must have a brake mechanism acting upon each wheel. The braking system shall be a dual system, arranged in a manner to provide braking for at least two wheels in the event of failure in part of the system. In the case of OE single systems, this requirement may be satisfied by a functional, redundant emergency brake. Karts are exempt from this requirement. FORMCHECKBOX 13) Swing Axles All swing axle cars, except Porsche, must have a camber compensator, have negative camber on the rear wheels, or have axle-limiting straps. Standard pre-1967 Volkswagen straps are not sufficient. FORMCHECKBOX 14) Wheel Bearings Wheel bearings, shocks, steering, and suspension shall be in good operating condition. FORMCHECKBOX 15) Exhaust must exit behind driver or to side of car. FORMCHECKBOX 16) Starters must be on-board. FORMCHECKBOX 17) Battery Any wet-cell battery moved from the manufacturers original location shall be in a non-conductive, marine-type container or equivalent and the hot terminal shall be insulated. All batteries (on-board power supplies) shall be attached securely to the frame or chassis structure independent of the marine-type container. NOTE: This will allow the use of gel cell or dry cell (AGM) batteries without a nonconductive, marine-type container where applicable. FORMCHECKBOX 18) Roll Bars Roll bars, if installed, must meet the applicable portions of 3.3.2 and Appendix C with specific attention to roll bar height. FORMCHECKBOX 19) Helmets Helmets for all occupants of the vehicle are to be inspected for condition, fit, and compliance with section 4.3.1 Drivers Safety Equipment:

4.3.1 Helmets

Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on course:

All helmets meeting the latest or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA2010, SAH2010, SA2005, SA2000, M2010, M2005, M2000, K2010, K2005, K98), SFI standards 31.1, 41.1, 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, 41.2A or British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are acceptable.

Formula Junior drivers must use helmets meeting the above, SFI 24.1

(Youth Helmets), Snell CMR2007 (Childrens Motorsports Restricted),

or Snell CMS2007 (Childrens Motorsports Standard) specifications.

For maximum protection, helmets must fit securely and should provide adequate peripheral vision. The chin strap must be securely fastened.

Loaner helmets should be available to vehicle occupants not having their own. FORMCHECKBOX 20) No flex-fans allowed. FORMCHECKBOX 21) No alcohol allowed in manifold injection or spray bottles unless OEM.

FORMCHECKBOX 22) For cars competing on non-DOT-approved tires, the vehicle safety requirements as referenced in each category rule set, in addition to those in mandatory sections of the Solo Rules, shall be adhered to by all entrants. FORMCHECKBOX 23) A vehicle must meet the requirements of 3.3.2 as they apply to all

categories in which it is entered. FORMCHECKBOX 24) For all karts, chain guards are required on engines. FORMCHECKBOX 25) For all karts, a brake safety cable or redundant brake pedal connection

is required.3.3.4 Vehicle Operating Condition

Any car judged by the Event Chairman to be unsafe at any time, shall be barred from competition until fixed to the satisfaction of the Chief Tech Inspector.* * *Siskiyou Sports Car Club Specific Regulations(Rule Book updates are anticipated before the 2013 season)1.2 DRIVER SAFETY EQUIPMENT - All drivers and passengers must wear a SA95 or M95, or later, helmet (after the Snell 2005 is released), and closed shoes. Seat belts must be used. The technical inspector shall have the final say on any helmet, shoes or seat belts in question. Loaner helmets are available. Drivers of vehicles without a windshield must wear a face shield.Tech Inspectors will be enforcing car numbers being on the car and visible before passing tech. General rule: numbers must be 8 or taller; 1.25 stroke and be contrasting to the background such that timing and scoring can easily identify the vehicle.4.0 VEHICLE PREPARATION FOR COMPETITION

4.1 SAFETY - Each vehicle will receive, and must pass, a technical safety inspection prior to competition. Each competing vehicle shall be maintained in a safe operating condition throughout the event, or it will be excluded from competing until the unsafe condition has been rectified. The primary purpose of the tech inspection, is to identify any safety deficiencies, and not to determine the conformance of the vehicle to classification rules.

Each vehicle must comply with the following points:

4.2 SEAT BELTS - Seat belts (used in their intended fashion) are required for each occupied seating position in all competing vehicles. The use of a lap belt as the sole restraint is permitted only if the vehicle is not originally equipped with any other restraints. Shoulder belts are highly recommended at all occupied seating positions.

4.3 CAR CONTENTS - No loose items shall be carried in or on the car. Tonneau covers and removable hardtops must be removed. Convertible tops must be down and properly secured.

4.4 WHEELS - Wheels must be mounted in a safe manner, with all lug nuts present and tight. Wheel covers, hub caps, trim rings, or any other cosmetic pieces not bolted or welded to the wheel shall be removed. Wheels must not be cracked or deformed. All spokes must be in place and secure on wire wheels.

4.5 SUSPENSION - All suspension components shall be in proper operating condition, with no excessive play present in the steering wheel, front suspension or wheel bearings.

4.6 FLUID LEAKS - No excessive fluid leaks will be allowed under any conditions. Gas cap must be tight and not leaking. All engine connections must be tight.

4.7 TIRES - As per the current SSCC rules*. No temporary type spare tires, or studded tires are allowed.

4.8 ROLL OVER PROTECTION - A roll bar is required for all formula cars, all sport racers, all open cockpit cars, and all convertibles. Roll bars shall meet current SSCC specifications*.

4.9 THROTTLE LINKAGE - The throttle linkage shall operate smoothly throughout its travel. The linkage shall be fitted with an external spring loaded return mechanism, which will rapidly return the throttle to the closed position when the throttle is released from any and all open positions. All non-stock vehicles must have two (2) throttle return springs.

4.10 BRAKES - Each wheel must be equipped with a fully operational brake. All brakes must be actuated using a single common brake pedal. With the brake system pressurized, no fluid leaks shall be allowed in the system. The fluid in the master cylinder must be above the minimum level mark with the brakes released.

4.11 BATTERY - Batteries shall be mounted securely. No bungee cords. If the battery is located in the passenger compartment, it must be in a sealed marine type container. If the battery is located in the trunk, the positive terminal shall be covered with a non-conductive material, such as a rubber boot or electrical tape.

4.12 SWING AXLES - Swing axle suspensions must exhibit negative camber, or have installed a camber compensator or wheel droop limiting straps. If in the judgment of the Competition Director a swing axle equipped vehicle appears unstable, the vehicle may be barred from further competition, regardless of compliance with the above stated rules.
