The International.Journal of Aromatherapy contains both refereed and non-refereed art&x Authors’ Details With your submission, please enclose your name, postal address, telephone and fax number. Please also enclose a biography of not more than 30 words. Length of Article The minimum length for an article is 1,500 words. There is no upper limit, but articles over 5,000 words are rarely accepted for publication. The Typescript Using 8.5 x 11 inch (A4) paper, please type double-spaced copy, on one side of the paper only (numbering each page), with margins of at least 2.5 cm. For non- refereed articles, we only require one hard copy. Authors should retain one copy for reference. Disk Submission If possible, please also send your submission on disk. The document should be saved as “text only” which will then allow us to translate it Headings Do not use more than two categories of headings, and only use more than one type when absolutely necessary. Primary headings should be styled with CAPITAL LETTERS (not bold) and secondary headings should be styled in Italics. Editing The editors reserve the right to make editorial and literary corrections. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking before publication. However, we will require proofing to be carried out within a very short period of time, normally 48 hours. References References should be in name/date format, not numbered. Journal articles should be styled: Beanie, R.T. (1968) Nutmeg as a psychoactive agent. British ,Journal of Addiction 63: 105-109 Book references should be styled: Grieve, M. (1978) A modern herbal. Harmondsworth: Penguin Books In the text the name and date are given in brackets at the relevant points, eg: (Beattie, 1968). Note that the author’s initial is not given here. In cases of multiple (but not dual) authorship, the name of the Iirst author only is given, followed by “et al.” For example: Stamford, I.F. et al. (1978) Treatment of diarrhoea in cattle and pigs with nutmeg. Veterinary Record 103: 1415 In the text, this would be referenced: (Stamford et al., 1978) In the case of dual authorship, both authors are mentioned, for example: Shahan, I. and McCrone, D. (1975) Nutmeg and medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. New &gland Journal of Medicine 293: 1266 In the text, this would be referenced (Shafran and McCrone, 1975). At the end of the article the references should be listed in alphabetical order, by author name. When the same author name occurs more than once, they should be listed in chronological order. Differentiate between works published in the same year by the same author by labelling them a, b, c, etc. For example, (Beattie, 1968a; Beattie, 1968b) Illustrations and Photographs If any illustrations are to be used from previously published material, the author must seek permission to reproduce from the original publishers and authors. Permission should be acknowledged in the caption: “reproduced by kind permission of.... (publishers)” If original artwork, or photographs are submitted and the author wishes them returned this should be requested in writing, and the author’s details should be attached to the back of the illustration in the form of a label Do not write directly on the back of an illustration. Any photographs should be in the form of prints Tables These should be double spaced, with one table per sheet. A concise, descriptive title should appear with each table, further details can be given as a table footnote. Tables should appear as non-numbered pages after the references. In the typescript, indicate the approximate position of each table with the words: “TABLE ONE ABOUT HERE: etc. Copyright In order for the publishers to obtain maximum dissemination and copyright protection of material published in the journal, copyright must be explicitly transferred from the author to the publisher. Please sign and return the Copyright Assignment form with your manuscript. If a critical or controversial letter is submitted, the publishers may seek another opinion, or a rebuttal, to publish alongside the first letter.
