Authorised Examiner Class ‘C’, Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) Moratorium on the appointment of Authorised Examiners for class ‘C’ (car) The Registrar of Motor Vehicles has determined, as a matter of general policy, not to make further appointments of Authorised Examiners for class ‘C’ at this time. This policy will not be applied inflexibly. Motor Driving Instructors remain entitled to apply to become Authorised Examiners and may submit reasons why the general policy should not apply to them. Before making a decision on any application, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles will consider all relevant materials or submissions put forward by the applicant. Before you begin To become an Authorised Examiner for class ‘C’ Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A), you must be a current Motor Driving Instructor (MDI) 1 and hold at a minimum class ‘C’ driver’s licence. Step One Apply for exemption to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles moratorium on appointing Authorised Examiners for class ‘C’. Forward your application for exemption to: [email protected]. If you are granted an exemption, proceed to step two. Step Two Lodge an application 9 to become an Authorised Examiner with the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Include with your application: Evidence of successfully passing the Motor Driving Instructor Road Law Theory Test at a Service SA Customer Service Centre. Contact 13 10 84 to make a booking. The Motor Driving Instructor theory test is valid for 12 months. A certified copy of a current (no more than three months old) National Police Clearance certificate from an approved provider listed on the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) website, www.acic.gov.au. A training return form 54 with the details of five novice drivers you have trained in entirety to pass a VORT. The novice drivers must comply with the following requirements. The listed novice drivers must: o Not have previously held a driver’s licence. o Have been trained entirely by you and have successfully completed a VORT and have obtained their class ‘C’ driver’s licence. o Have been issued their driver’s licence within a six month period, prior to the date on the application form. A certified copy of the current Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Car Driving Instruction) or Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Heavy Vehicle Driving Instruction). A certified copy of your statement of attainment for the training and assessment units TAEASS401 – Plan Assessment Activities and Processes TAEASS402 – Assess Competence. Step Three You will be notified if your application has met all the pre-conditions to allow you to commence the required assessments and training.

Authorised Examiner Class ‘C’, Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A)

Moratorium on the appointment of Authorised Examiners for class ‘C’ (car) The Registrar of Motor Vehicles has determined, as a matter of general policy, not to make further appointments of Authorised Examiners for class ‘C’ at this time. A certified copy of your statement of attainment for the training and assessment units TAEASS401 –Plan Assessment Activities and Processes TAEASS402 – Assess Competence.

Step Three You will be notified if your application has met all the pre-conditions to allow you to commence the required assessments and training.

Step Four Successfully complete a New Authorised Examiner Regulator Assessment (Car)27 with a DPTI Assessment Officer in a class ‘C’ vehicle fitted with a manual transmission. Fees apply for this assessment. All of the components of a Regulator Assessment are based on Tasks outlined in the Driving Companion30

Step Five

Attend and successfully complete to the required standard the seven day CBT&A class ‘C’ Authorised Examiner course conducted by DPTI Standards and Accreditation. The course will consist of class room theory and assessments and on-road practical assessments. Course applicants will be required to achieve competency in training and assessing:

Task 14 assessment - Review of Slow Speed Manoeuvres

Task 28 assessment - Negotiating Traffic Lights in Traffic

Task 30 assessment - Review of Road Skills and Traffic Management

A range of written and theory assessments - Road Rules and General Knowledge

Refer to the Driving Companion30 for an overview of these tasks.

Step Six Upon completing the above requirements the Registrar of Motor Vehicles must consider your application in its entirety (including performance in the Regulator Assessment and DPTI training). If the Registrar approves your appointment you must attend a Service SA centre to:

Pay your annual fee

Pay fees for the issue of a new (or replacement) motor driving instructor’s photographic identity badge, and

Provide proof of public liability and professional indemnity insurance as required by your Instrument of Appointment.

Note: If you do not complete the course you will have the opportunity to have incomplete topics reassessed at your own cost. The course must be completed within 12 months of being accepted.

Fees (subject to change):

MDI theory test $82

Class C (car) Regulator Assessment $235 test fee per assessment plus $17 administration fee per booking

Authorised Examiner CBT&A class ‘C’ accreditation course (six day course)

$235 training and proficiency test fee plus $17 administration fee

Appointment as an Authorised Examiner CBT&A (annual fee)
