Notes for parents and carers,

Lent is the period of six weeks (40 days not including Sundays) leading up to Easter, the most important festival in the Christian calendar. Lent is an old English word meaning 'lengthen'. Lent is observed in spring, when the days begin to get longer. During Lent, we remember how Jesus went into the desert to fast and pray before beginning his work for God. Jesus was tempted several times by Satan, but was able to resist. Lent allows Christians to remember Jesus's fasting in the desert. It is a time of giving things up and a test of self-discipline.

Lent starts on Ash Wednesday. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week. In 2021 Lent begins on Wednesday 17 February and ends on Monday 29 March.

Ways to use our Lenten Pathway.

Using a calendar template is a simple, daily, and playful but serious practice for praying our way through the forty days of Lent.

Each day, choose a word to ponder or a person to pray for. Write the word or name in the allotted space with a pen and draw or doodle around it.

Alternatively, you could choose one of the activities from the chart below to do each day during Lent.

Returning to the Lenten Pathway each day establishes a special time to be present to God and to listen.
