As the technician read my results, I felt the wind of opportunity’s doors blow in my face as they slammed shut.

Diagnosis: pregnancy. Prognosis: failure.

I had aspirations. I had goals. I had dreams. But then, I had nothing. I felt trapped. I felt hopeless. And, worst of all, I felt unsupported. I was doomed to be just another teenage statistic, until I decided to escape adversity.

I combined my knowledge with my ambition, and was able to raise my children without sacrificing my dreams. YES! It was difficult and I struggled, every step of the way. But, I never lost sight of my goal.

Over time, it became clear to me that what our youth need is a fresh voice – and a fresh vision – and somebody who can show them that they can’t allow themselves to be defined by what society deems as failures. I’m offering myself to give such a voice and vision to your teen parents. My name is Deondriea Cantrice, and there are few speakers like me.

During my presentations, I challenge audiences to overcome stereotypes, realize they’re capable of being much more than a statistic, and see their fu-ture in a positive light all while inspiring them to embrace their self-worth, open opportunity’s door, and achieve their wildest desires.
