Using a Google Tango smartphone or tablet, users could capture a room of their choice in 3D. This model could then be brought over to a PC, where a room plan could be built just by dragging extra furniture in. Why is this Awesome? Technology such as this has many far reaching applications in both industry and research. It could let users try furniture in a space before buying it, or plan out their new home before they move in. Additionally, the system can act as a platform upon which to prototype new 3D scanning and mesh reconstruction techniques.

What did we build?

The goal of this thesis was to use 3D Scanning technologies to revolutionise the process of room planning. Using a Google Tangosmartphone or tablet, users could capture a room of their choice in 3D. This model could then be brought over to a PC, where a room plancould be built just by dragging extra furniture in.

Why is this Awesome?

Technology such as this has many far reaching applications in both industry and research. It could let users try furniture in a space beforebuying it, or plan out their new home before they move in. Additionally, the system can act as a platform upon which to prototype new 3Dscanning and mesh reconstruction techniques.
