• Transfer of National Marine Safety Committee (NMSC) functions to the national regulator by July 2011

AVIATION
• 9 Feb 2010 - Strengthening Aviation Security’ initiative ($200m)
• $54.2m Support for industry to install cargo screening
technologies at selected locations and a regulated shipper
scheme, which will allow for the identification of high-risk cargo
for technical examination.
• Accredited Air Cargo Agent (AACA) Scheme to be introduced in
2010 to tighten security over the land transportation of cargo that
may be carried on an aircraft

MARITIME
• January 2010 Minister Albanese announced changes to the MSIC scheme.
• Tightened eligibility criteria for the issue of an MSIC
increased number of criminal offence types that preclude an individual
from obtaining an MSIC. (from 1 July 2010)
Validity period of an MSIC reduced from 5 years to 4
Background checking required every 2 years instead of every 5 years.
New offences created for MSIC holders who fail to advise card issuing
body of additions to their criminal record.
MSIC issuing bodies required to take appropriate when advised.
