12/9/2016 This report presents ASIC’s findings on the sale of add-on insurance through car dealers. Our findings are based on data collected from seven general insurers who issue add-on insurance products.

Our review suggests that add-on insurance sold through this distribution channel represents poor value for consumers and is designed and sold in a way that may not meet consumers’ needs.

It describes the practices of 11 large mortgage brokers and trends in the market after REP 445. It identifies good practices as well as opportunities to improve brokers’ practices.

Our reviews are intended to promote responsible lending and consumer confidence in the credit industry.
