Census night is Tuesday 8th August 2006.

Up to 300 Area supervisors will be employed in WA.ƒ They will manage a workforce of between 5 & 9

collectors & ensure an accurate count of their area.ƒ These positions will be advertised from 11 Feb 2006.

Approx 3000 Census collectors will also be employed throughout WA.

ƒ They will deliver & collect census forms from every household in their workload area.

ƒ These positions will be advertised from 8th April 2006.

Population growth of approx 1.5% p.a. since 2001 (2nd only to Qld) this equates to an additional 140,000 people since 2001.

1996 - 2001 Indigenous population as a proportion of total population increased from 3.0 to 3.5%.

Increased focus from the ABS on householders lodging census forms over the internet.

Greater focus on using census "Ambassadors" to assist with promotion and awareness raising activities.

2006 Census profiles will be based primarily on usual residence as opposed to place of enumeration data.
