About the conferenceThe 2016 ACV Conference this year titled “Déjà Moo” is a three day event held at Ayers Rock Resort, Northern Territory.

The scientific program will closely replicate the most popular event that ACV ran in Alice Springs which showcased the latest trends in livestock veterinary practice and shared many common procedures and processes.

Dave is a Professor in the Animal Population Health Institute, Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University.

His research interests include clostridial diseases of ruminants, bilingual livestock worker training, and livestock disease surveillance. He’s been out here before, and is back by popular demand. His practical “how to” approach will ensure you take home useful tips and tricks that you can use – whether you are in practice, teaching or consultancy.

workshopsTwo pre-conference workshops will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 5 April. These will be classroom-style workshops held within the Ayers Rock Resort. You will be able to register for the pre-conference workshops when registering for the conference, at extra charge. The committee has decided to this year offer the workshops prior to the conference with no minimum numbers ensuring that you can book your travel with confidence of workshop attendance. The number of attendees are capped at the room capacity, so please get in early to secure your spot at these informative workshops.

Excel for veterinarians – Dave Beggs has been using spreadsheets since 1984. Most people only scratch the surface when using Excel – but there are a stack of new bells and whistles that have been added in recent years that many people don’t know about. Come and learn how to handle data more efficiently and make your spreadsheets more professional and productive for yourself.

Calf disease and management workshop – Matt Izzo is an accredited cattle specialist. Matt will take you through how to manage the sick calf as well as providing the necessary steps to investigate why calves are getting sick and practical solutions to prevent further disease.

Wednesday 6 April – Breakfast, No dinner includedWednesday morning begins with very popular bacon and egg roll breakfast in the Tjungu Ballroom at Ayers Rock Resort, a great chance to get that last bit of sustenance and network with trade representatives before a full day of exciting conference presentations.

On Wednesday night attendees will have a free night to enjoy dinner at their leisure and enjoy the amenities of Ayers Rock Resort and the unique surrounds. While dinner is at your own cost, to allow the venue to plan, we will ask you where you are likely to dine.

Thursday 7 April – Uluru Sunrise Viewing (with breakfast) & Sounds of Silence DinnerBe up before dawn on Thursday morning to catch the bus to watch the remarkable changing colours of Uluru as the sun rises over the desert landscape. On-the-go breakfast boxes will be supplied to all attendees. No breakfast will be available in the trade hall on Thursday morning.

Dinner on Thursday evening is a unique experience and at an exclusive conference-only location. Sounds of Silence is an award-winning dining experience that begins with outback style canapés served atop a sand dune overlooking the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Under the clear outback night sky, attendees will enjoy a three course bush-tucker inspired buffet to the sounds of a didgeridoo, and be treated with a traditional Indigenous dance performance. After dinner, attendees can relax under a sea of stars while the resident star talker decodes the southern night sky, locating the Southern Cross, signs of the zodiac, and the Milky Way. Planets and galaxies are also highly visible due to the exceptional clarity of the atmosphere. This will certainly be one dining experience you will remember!

Free transfers are arranged for both the Uluru Sunrise Viewing and Sounds of Silence dining experience to and from Ayers Rock Resort.

*Please be aware that the indigenous performers are traditional people with strong cultural obligations. In the event of some major unforeseen cultural event, such as ceremonial duties or bereavement, Ayers Rock Resort may not be able to provide the specified activity as advertised.

Friday 8 April – Breakfast & Gala DinnerFriday morning’s breakfast will be again be served in the Tjungu Ballroom at Ayers Rock Resort.

The Gala Dinner, held on-site at the Ayers Rock Resort Conference Centre, is included for all to conclude the conference. Party the night away, or have an early night at your discretion – dinner and drinks will be offered. Conference attendees like to dress up this night, but it is definitely not a black tie event!

Uluru - Kata Tjuta National ParkUluru–Kata Tjuta National Park is Aboriginal land. The park is jointly managed by its Anangu traditional owners and Parks Australia. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is internationally recognised as a World Heritage Area. It is one of few properties in the world to be dual-listed by UNESCO for outstanding natural values and outstanding cultural values.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park expands across more than 327,414 acres of Northern Territory’s desert outback and is home to two of the world’s most iconic rock formations. Uluru and Kata Tjuta have significant meaning to Aboriginal people, they both form an important focus of their spiritual life.

• Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is home to 21 mammals, 73 reptiles, 178 birds, and four frogs. Look out for some colourful characters like the thorny devil and splendid fairy-wren.

• Uluru is one of the largest monoliths in the world, made of arkosic sandstone.• Uluru stands 348m high, that’s higher that The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Chrysler Building in New

York, and 2.5 times the height of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.• The circumference of the base of Uluru is 9.4 kilometres.• The symbolism used in Uluru’s rock art is thought to date back at least 5,000 years.• Kata Tjuta is an Aboriginal name and means “many heads”• The tallest dome of Kata Tjuta stands 546m high. Kata Tjuta is approximately 30km west of

Uluru.
