The Issuing Authority requires applicants to present themselves for biometrics ON SUBMISSION. VPU will do a quality check of documents you provide, load the application online, book the visa appointment and pre-pay the visa for lodgement. A VPU representative easily recognizable in our “Red VPU Shirts” will meet you and guide you through the visa process on the day of your appointment.

Passport Certified copy of a Valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity (after the return date of planned trip). Passport must have a minimum of 3 blank pages

Photocopy of passport (clear copy of biometric page)

About this Visa

The Transit visa (subclass 771) lets you transit through Australia for no longer than 72 hours. Your transit visa lets you to travel to Australia by air. If you arrive in Australia by air on a transit visa and hold no other visa (other than a Maritime crew visa (subclass 988), your Maritime crew visa (subclass 988) will cease within five days if you do not sign onto your ship. This visa allows you to transit through Australia on your way to another country or pass through Australia and join a cruise ship as a member of the crew.

Health Requirements

You may be required to undergo health examinations as part of the visa application process.

Application form FULLY completed application form (completed in black ink in block letters and signed by the applicant) ALL questions MUST be answered in full.

Photographs No photographs are required, as the application centre will take photos on the day of the appointment.

Employment Letter A photocopy of a letter from your employer confirming your employment status, dates of travel and the purpose of your trip.

Flight Itinerary Photocopy of return flights clearly showing all flight sectors (including to/from RSA)

Travel Insurance Travel Insurance is required

Character Requirements

You must be prepared to provide a police certificate from each country you have lived in for 12 months or more during the past 10 years after you turned 16 years of age. Do not arrange police certificates until the Embassy requests it. This also applies to all dependent family members in the application who are 16 years of age or older

Travelling with Minors (U18)

The following additional documents will be required for any minor travelling with a Parent: Unabridged Birth Certificate, Certified copies of parents ID’s + Consent letter from each parent not accompanying minor.

Please note: The above checklist is based on a South African passport holder; ALL foreign passport holders must have a valid RSA permit (valid for a minimum of 6 months after return date of planned trip) in their current passports in order to apply for this visa in South Africa. Foreign passports may take longer to be processed by the Issuing Authority. I hereby acknowledge that:
