AHIV group projectMANDATORY!!!this means that you MUST do it!
• The project is part of your assessement for the course.
•To make things easier – it is a group project, the research work is shared, analysed and organised into a presentation
by all members in the group.
• Each member must contribute, but it is up to the groupto decide which member is going to do what. At the back of
the project – a detailed outline of which member contributedwhat to the project must be given.
• The project itself must contain a written analysis.
• However it does not have to be only awritten paper. In addition,
if you wish you may supplementanalysis with extra material – pictures,
music, or videos, you can turn it into a chart. You may make a Powerpoint show etc, write,
enact and film a screenplay• If you do use extra material – it must either,
prove your case, illustrate your point or be used a case study (eg Jonestown Tragedy)
THE QUESTIONKarl Marx said: “Religion is the opiate of the masses”. He sees religion or cultural values as an ideology that controls the minds of people , in such a way that they are disempowered, or that it has a negative impact on their lives and yet that they are falsely satisfied with their disempowerment and may even think that it is a good thing or the right way to be.
Find your own example that can demonstrate that Marx’s belief that religion , a traditional belief, cultural practise or event in history may indeed work like an ideology that disempowers the believer while making the believer satisfied with his or her disempowerment.
(For example – I used the Jonestown tragedy as an example – see the site austinahiv.blogspot.com for an idea of what to do)
