Commercial Music Mgmt:

Computer Studies & Advanced Technology

•Music & CMM need 2x existing space•Ceilings and walls need soundproofing •Some classes are taught in closets or offices.•Need practice space, computer based technology (MIDI) is taught without student access to computers in the classroom.

•Need dedicated performance space. Cannot currently add new sections or increase enrollment.

•Adjunct faculty share one very crowded office. Some FT faculty members share an

office.

•Create a “Center for Innovative Media”, small library for each dept, campus wide library, on-line library (possibly to replace building 3000 and 4000).

•Move CAD to another building with a remodel to accommodate a lab for equipment such as a mill, lathe, and 3D prototyping printer

Comm-unications:

Continuing Education:

Creative Writing:

Economics:

Developmental Reading and Study Skills:

•more spanish classroom space

•This campus seems to be at this maximum already -- it would be difficult to expand to higher numbers.

•Expanding would require additional parking and building on existing green spaces

•More classroom space •Creative gathering spaces for students and faculty.

•More adjunct faculty office space.

•Need three full time faculty at this campus

•Office space will be required for a new faculty member.

Financial Aid:

Foreign Languages:

Geographic Information Systems:

Geography and Anthropology

•Aid application work spaces for students,•Additional office and storage space•New configuration where all SS are adjacent (similar to SAC, CYP, and RRC)

•More classroom space

•One FT faculty member here; new Department Chair will be located here beginning Summer 2010. Adjuncts teach some classes currently.

• Intro to Archaeology would benefit from a small excavation site.

•A “sand box” could be established and maintained for use as a hands-on excavation site for Archaeology classes.

•Consolidate faculty offices

Learning Services/

Learning Labs:

Library Services:

•Need to relocate small/medium size study rooms to on-campus location

•Location of learning labs near libraries, student commons, adjacent small and medium size meeting and study rooms for conferences, study groups, SI, etc. Kiosk for quick access to computers

•Easy access to café or store for supplies, etc

•Campus should expand vertically, the IRT environment is very small with little to no storage.

• Increase student seating and student quiet study/small group study.

•Can the athletic track be removed and filled in with classroom space?

•Perhaps a focus campus. The music curriculum needs to be enhanced by expanding into outdoor space or relocating to adequate building

Page 21: Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge Campus Advisory Committee Meeting Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge

Library Services Cont’d:

•Need student recreation space, reflection space.

•Need common/shared space for faculty•Primarily a general educ. Campus--magnet programs can't expand with existing space

•Campus is crowded, need more places for people to be.

•Need to expand student seating outside and create an outside life

•Enrollment couldn't be increased without serious building or giving up other spaces. If track is done away with, another 20-25% could be added

•Need better spaces for magnets that are there

•Library should be bigger with more group study space and information literature space

•Outdoor space is nice but needs to be further designed and built out

Page 22: Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge Campus Advisory Committee Meeting Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge

Office of Student Life:

Social & Behavioral Sciences:

•The Office of Student Life rents off campus facilities for various co-curricular special events that seat or hold 500 students this information applies to all campuses

•Need more event space for orientation, and large student gatherings (500 seating capacity minimum) The strain on EVC is way to high, and EVC is beginning to not be able to accommodate all large seating needs.

•The student lounge area at NRG’s size is too small for student usage. Lounge is located next to OSD…not compatible because of noise level. Suggestion, swap current lounge with Simon’s. –find a way to bring the outside inside utilizing the patio area.

•Trial of hybrid classes, GIS lab, "sand box", predictable scheduling in priority classrooms, SPSS dedicated computer lab.

Speech:

Student Support and Success Systems:

• Insufficient number of classrooms. Not possible to expand our program there.

•Student- friendly, welcoming; easy way-finding; adequate space for students.

•Enrollment is capped, by default, the number of classrooms/student capacity.

•Open spaces between buildings is in poor condition

•The role of nature and landscaping in the design of the campus is a downfall at ACC, landscaping and outdoor maintenance suffer

•All intramural athletics are offered off campus (basketball, soccer, volleyball)

•This campus does not interact well with the local transportation systems

•Need 100 additional square feet for offices and 150 additional square feet for Dean of Student Services

Page 24: Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge Campus Advisory Committee Meeting Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge

24

Student Support and Success Systems:

•A great location, a nice group of buildings, and easy to get to.

•Overcrowded, insufficient classroom availability, and insufficient office space for faculty.

•Needs another building to meet demand.

Next Steps

Page 26: Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge Campus Advisory Committee Meeting Austin Community College Master Plan March 02, 2010 Northridge

Next Steps

• Continue to study demographic data, utilization strategies and enrollment projections

• Facilities assessment

• Develop space projections: the “Building Blocks” for the Master Plan at each campus

• Study phasing options
