A year before ·the South American leave of Dean de Jong, President
HcDonald had acted .upon his recommendation of a change in the .chairman-
ship of the :Music Department. Prof. Leroy J. Robertson, who .had .been ·a
member of ~ts factilty since 1924, was named as ~ts head to succeed Prof-

'I'he first department chairman to be retired was Dr. Pardoe from the
Speech Department in l952. He was succeeded by Harold I. Hansen, whom
President l;Jilkinson brought to the campus from Utah State University (then
Utah State Agricultural College). The department was divid~d into two
part~ from 1961 through 1967, with Dr. Hansen continriin~ a~ ~ead oS
