Tony Kooyumjian (owner and winemaker of Augusta Wine Company) is a third genera-tion vineyard owner and grape grower. His grandmother immigrated to California from Armenia in 1915. She established a vineyard in San Joaquin Valley which she operated with her son until 1960. Mr. Kooyumjian initially decided to choose a career other than grape growing, aviation. It was during his air-line career that he was given the opportunity to travel the world and discover fine wines in various countries, developing an even greater appreciation for winemaking and grape growing. His first vintage, in 1980, was 1000 gallons or 420 cases of wine. In 1988 he established the Augusta Winery in the center of the town historically known for its fine wines and the location of the “First Ameri-can Viticulture Area”. In 1998 he purchased
Montelle Winery and is now joined by his son Tom in the family owned and operated wine business.

Carol and Rick Balducci grew up in the St. Louis area. At age 15, Carol started her ca-reer in the restaurant industry and honed her skills in the kitchen and, later, in management.
Rick attended Kansas State University on a football scholarship, and later, served in Vietnam as an infantry officer and helicopter pilot.
In 1975, Rick opened Balducci’s Restaurant in Maryland Heights, which has become an ‘institution’ for over 40 years. The restaurant is consistently on numerous ‘best of ’ lists for their pizza and pastas.
Carol and Rick married in 1985, moved to Augusta in 1987, and opened Balducci
Vineyards, Winery and Restaurant in 2001. Since then, the Augusta venue has received wonderful reviews and has been a ‘Reader’s Choice’ winner for 9 years.
Nic, the son of Carol and Rick, is the next generation winemaker and has received awards for his winemaking skills.

CEDAR LAKE CELLARSWords and photos courtesy of Cedar Lake Cellars
Here’s how my story goes: I fly over a farm, land my helicopter in a back field, walk up to the house…and ask the owners if I can buy the farm. True story.
I grew up in the area and had worked on a property adjacent to this farm. I loved the country way of life so, in 2002, I purchased what was once the Schreckengast farm and is known today as Cedar Lake Cellars.
The Big Red Barn, nestled on 170+ breathtaking acres, has become my winery’s predominant flagship. Built in the 1930s,
the Barn was restored to its original glory and opened in 2008. Today the space hosts more than 100 weddings each year plus even more private affairs.
What’s special about my winery? It’s open year-round. We offer Sunday brunch, private label & worldwide wines, an extensive beer selection, and our signature wine slushies. Experience Cedar Lake Cellars and see for yourself why I literally bought the farm.

CHANDLER HILL VINEYARDS
Words and photos courtesy of Chandler Hill Vineyards
I grew up in Texas and attended Baylor Uni-versity to get my degree in education. While there, I met my wife, Cindy. We married in 1981. Cindy was from St. Louis, so we moved back. My in-laws bought the property where Chandler Hill is now located in 1986. They used it as a weekend retreat and we spent holidays here for years. My father-in-law taught me about wine, and, when he talked about possibly selling it, my brother-in-law and I talked about turning it into a vineyard. We opened for business on July 16, 2008.
We wanted to keep the history of the loca-tion alive, so the winery is named for Joseph Chandler. In the early 1870’s, Joseph Chan-dler was a freed slave that had settled near De-fiance. Befriended by the Fluesmeier family, he
worked on their farm for many years, and was deeded these 40 acres by Dr. Fluesmeier.
Relics of Joseph Chandler are on display in the winery. And all of our Missouri wines are named for people that had a history with the property.

NOBOLEIS VINEYARDSWords and photos courtesy of Noboleis Vineyards
Coming from a CPA and Business Entre-preneur background, I had experience with starting a business from the ground up. That along with a personal industry in wine and the industry that surrounds it, brought us to where we are today.
When the opportunity arose to purchase land in Augusta, MO, which has a long his-tory spanning 200 years of winemaking, my wife Lou Ann and I were intrigued and we took the plunge. Now, ten years later,
we produce over 20 different wines, mostly from our estate vineyards with an emphasis on drier wines, but includes a full range of dry to sweetness levels.
The viticulture, winemaking process and our views have provided endless enjoyment and satisfaction for Lou and I. Our family business has seen our daughters take impor-tant roles in running different aspects of the winery as well as several of our young adult grandchildren.

RÖBLLER VINEYARDWords and photos courtesy of Röbller Vineyard
Röbller Vineyard is a family operated winery on a beautiful hillside in the heart of Missouri Wine Country. Located just off of Highway 100 on the east side of New Haven. Robert and Lois Mueller along with their children have grown what began as a backyard hobby in Glendale Mo., into a formidable estate styled winery.
Started from the ground up in 1988 with our first plantings of French Hybrids we have grown to almost 18 acres of vineyard. The winery opened its doors on April 27th 1991 (Robert and Lois’s 34th Wedding Anniversary) and recently celebrated its 24th Anniversary. Over the years we have come to understand
how perfect the site really is for growing quality grapes to make our exceptional wines.
Winegrowing is not just our livelihood, rather it is an expression of our passion and dedication. We invite you and your family to enjoy the fruits of our labor in a family oriented atmosphere. We are open daily year round for wine tasting and relaxation.
From our hillside to your glass, enjoy!

SUGAR CREEK WINERYWords and photos courtesy of Sugar Creek Winery
Fostered by the love for wines, and frequent trips to Missouri wine country, Ken and Becky Miller left Kirkwood, Missouri in August of 1994 when they purchased the former Boone Country Winery.
While living in Kirkwood, Becky and Ken had also purchased a building lot in Kirkwood's Sugar Creek Valley where they planned to build their "Dream Home".
As most of us know plans can change. In the fall of 1994 they moved to the beauti-ful hill top property overlooking the broad Missouri River Valley in Defiance.
Becky's first comment after arriving at their new home and business was "since we won't have our dream home in Sugar Creek of Kirkwood let's take Sugar Creek with us."
Sugar Creek Winery and Vineyards was born.Their son, Chris Lorch, joined them as
winemaker and director of winery opera-tions. Chris spent years working in Napa California developing his winemaking skill resulting in the quality, award winning wines that Sugar Creek produces today.

YELLOW FARMHOUSEVINEYARD & WINERY
Words and photos courtesy of Yellow Farmhouse Vineyard & Winery
On Spanish Land-Grant land once owned by Daniel Boone’s Daughter, Rebecca, there once stood a store, blacksmith shop and a Bed & Breakfast. So why not a winery? That’s the question I asked myself when I was 65, retiring and an amateur winemaker. Retirement did not mean I was going to sit on the couch and watch Oprah! So, in 2004 we bought the land and planted the grapes the next year.
Our first crop matured in 2007 – just in time to be a 100% loss as the result of the latest and most devastating spring frost in Missouri’s history. Most were Norton’s, Missouri’s most famous grape, and they came back. We bought grapes from other
states and put together our first vintages of Yellow Farmhouse wine. It turned out pretty good.
Linda joined the team (actually I mar-ried her!), and added a new dimension to the Winery – patience – and a really good understanding of food. Before long we were making really good Nortons, Chambourcins, Traminettes, Vignoles and a few unknowns like NY-76 (now called “Aeromella”) and Edelweiss.
Can a retired lawyer, and a Travel Agent make good Missouri Wines? Come in and try some in one of our unlimited tastings. You be the judge.

Notes
Like a fine wine, a great extra virgin olive oil also depends on tree variety, soil, weather, harvesting and crushing methods.
As soon as you open a bottle of Olea Gold pure olive oil, you can taste and see the quality. The deep green color, the thick consistency, the pure aroma, the exquisite taste all separate Olea from the other oils that are on the market, today.
Olea Gold is an early harvest, single variety extra virgin olive oil that is…
…certified organic…unfiltered and pressed from green olives, resulting in an olive oil with a full, rich flavor…excellent in nutritional value…rich in antioxidants (phenol content)
What makes Olea different?
Since the first olive trees were planted over 150 years ago, in Sparta, Greece, we continue to extract our olive oil from the same trees, in the same way, with the same care.
We are family owned and operated for 4 generations. We cultivate and use no fertilizers or pesticides/herbicides.We hand-pick only when ripe.We first-press and cold-press with no preservatives, additives or colors.
A limited quanity is available. Order yours, online, today!Enter promo code WINERYGUIDE15 for 15% off of your entire purchase, through December 1st, 2015.
