Obviously the “war on terrorism” has been one of the reasons we have not scheduled a trip to Israel. Developments in our own congregation have also played a part in what trips we have chosen to offer. This might be the right time for us to consider another opportunity for people to visit Israel. The US State Department is allowing the tourism industry to promote and provide guided tours of the Holy Land as well as other middle eastern destinations. Things are also going quite well for us as a congregation. We are growing as a church and working together to serve our Lord Jesus. We seem to have learned from our own past how very important it is to communi- cate with each other and to work through the issues when there is a “difference of opinions”. We are blessed with a great group of leaders and volunteers who are getting the job done no matter what the job may be. (Oh, it’s true that every once in awhile there is a gap that needs to be filled. But once again I must stress how pleasing it is to see people step forward and fill those gaps when we make the need known!) The Psalmist declares: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 NASB) I have also had a few of you inquire about a trip to Israel. I know that I would love to go again. It is a life-changing experience! Seeing the places that are mentioned in the Scriptures brings a whole new perspective to your own personal Bible study. Once you have been there you will find yourself remembering the sites, the terrain and the people each time you read a Bible passage that makes reference to places you have been. A ten day trip includes stops at Mt. Carmel where Elijah dueled the prophets of Baal, Megiddo, Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of the Beatitudes, Cana, Nazareth, the Jordan River, Jericho, Bethlehem, Masada, the Dead Sea and Jerusalem. While in Jerusalem we’ll visit the Mount of Olives, the Temple Mount, the Pool of Be- thesda, and the Wailing Wall. We’ll walk down the Via Dolorosa and visit the Garden Tomb where Jesus was buried. Every tour includes a variety of side trips along the way from site to site so this is just a foretaste of the many things you’ll experience on this trip. If you (or your family or friends) think you’d like to spend a few days “walking where Jesus walked” please let me know. If there’s enough interest we’ll book a tour. A mid-winter tour would most likely depart on February 15th, whereas a summer trip would depart on June 7th. If you’re interested in going, please let me know ASAP. You might also want to indicate whether you prefer a winter or a summer trip. I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with you as we see the Bible come alive! It’s been 10 years since the last time we took a group from our church on a tour of the Holy Land.

We seem to have learned from our own past how very important it is to communi-cate with each other and to work through the issues when there is a “difference of opinions”. We are blessed with a great group of leaders and volunteers who are getting the job done no matter what the job may be. (Oh, it’s true that every once in awhile there is a gap that needs to be filled. But once again I must stress how pleasing it is to see people step forward and fill those gaps

when we make the need known!) The Psalmist declares: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 NASB)

I have also had a few of you inquire about a trip to Israel.

Stewardship Report by Nancy Garland, Financial Secretary

Page 3 News & Views Volume 15, Issue 8

We give thanks to God and to each one of you for your faithfulness in giving. Please continue to pray that God will provide for our church’s financial needs. (You’ll notice that we are run-ning behind our budgeted needs.) Each of us has the privilege of prayerfully considering our pattern of giving and seek-ing God’s direction so that we are offering to Him what He desires.

As we pray intercessory prayers for the people on the list it is imperative that we get updates. This allows us to pray prayers of thanksgiving for answered prayers. Please update us monthly or we will assume they have been answered as we update the list.

MN TEEN CHALLENGE TO PREFORM AUGUST 16TH AT BOTH 9:00 AM SERVICE AND 10:15 AM SERVICE

Minnesota Teen Challenge is a faith-based residential chemical dependency program for teens and adults with chronic alcohol, drug and other life-controlling problems. The mission of Teen Challenge is to provide rehabilitation for adults and teens whose problems are so serious they can no longer function in social, family, and work settings, and to help them become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive. The choir's contemporary Gospel and Praise songs will be accompanied by inspiring student stories of their deliverance from addiction by the power and forgiveness of God. Additionally, the students will be available following the service to answer questions about their personal experiences and how their lives have been changed through Minnesota Teen Challenge. The event is open to the public and all are welcome. You will be inspired by the message of hope brought by the MnTC Choir. Please bring a friend. Following the second service you’re invited to stay for lunch and spend a little more time getting to know the guys from Teen Challenge. We need volunteers to bring salads and desserts. Please sign up in the foyer.

We are looking for individuals that would like to be a part of this outreach program. We will be attending an

informative class on a program called ALPHA on August 29th from 9-4pm in Bemidji.

WHAT IS ALPHA? ALPHA is a non-confrontational approach that points people to Jesus. The ALPHA

course has spread widely over 160 countries and 100 languages because of the support of major Christian

denominations. Courses can be found in churches, workplaces, homes, military bases, colleges, schools and

prisons.

There are many reasons people enjoy attending the ALPHA course. For some it is the no pressure, non-

judgmental atmosphere, others enjoy building new friendships, while others enjoy the chance to discuss deep

questions of life that they don’t normally get to ask.

If you would be interested in leading a group, please contact Peggy at the church so that you can attend the

August 29th class. We are excited about the great things that God is going to do through this class.
