Twenty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
August 27 & 28, 2016
Sirach 3:17-18, 20,28-29 Ancient wisdom insists that the more
humble we are, the greater we are.
Psalm 68 “God, in your goodness, you have made a
home for the poor.”
Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a Far from frightening, our encounter with
God will be like a glorious holiday.
Luke 14:1, 7-14 Jesus presents his own version of table
manners.
Today’s Gospel is not about our dinner parties; it is a metaphor for how we interact with others in our lives. The first reading’s
message about humility sets the stage for the Gospel reading,. As we hear God’s holy word today,, let us listen for the message
that we need to hear about whom we welcome into the banquet of our own lives
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 3 & 4, 2016
Wisdom 9: 13-18b
Psalm 90
Philemon 9-10, 12-17
Luke 13:25-33

Lately, I’ve emphasizing the importance of genuinely listening
to another as a means of evangelization. But, what if a person
is angrily spouting off misconceptions, untruths and outright
lies about the Catholic faith? What are we to do then - just
listen to them??
Well, first of all, be assured that the Church capital C) ccan
handle it. The Catholic Church will remain - it was founded
by Jesus and is continually built up today by the Holy Spirit.
Lies against her will not make the Church fall.
Given that the Church shall stand, what remains is how hou
handle the situation. If you find yourself upset, angry, bitter, or
agitated, then your best course of action is to remove yourself
from the conversation as quickly and as best you can. The
Holy Spirit is found in peace of heart and mind, not in you
being upset.
Even if God graces you with peace as someone speaks ill
against Catholicism engaging the person is still probably a bad
idea. Winning and argument will not help you win that soul
for Christ. Do you really think they will convert if you con-
vince them that they are wrong? Speak Truth, give love, but
know only the Holy Spirit can soften a hardened heart.

Pro-Life Reflection
You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our
hearts are restless until they rest in you. ~St. Augustine
Reflection. These famous words of St. Augustine
remind us what the Church means by saying human
life is “sacred.”
As human persons, we are uniquely capable of having
a relationship with God. Our lives are oriented to Him
as our final goal and fulfillment; hence, we cannot be
owned by others, manipulated or discarded.
Prayer. Lord, I rejoice in my ability to relate to You,
and I honor every human being as Your own special
possession.
Word of Life
“Rather when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crip-
ple, the lame, the blind, blessed indeed will you be be-
cause of their inability to repay you. For you will be re-
paid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
~Luke 14:12-14 (NABRE © 2010 CCD. Used with
