The SWOT logo is on a sleeve. A limited supply of shirts will be sold to benefit the organization. Let me know your ideas for senior programsI WAnT TO THAnK each and every one of you who supported us through the Tin Cup Challenge. Your donation means the world to us, and we plan on putting it to good use.
At Seniors West of the Tetons, we envision a future where seniors are engaged, supported and thriving, and, with your help, we are accomplishing that. We are always trying to provide
diverse programming for you, but I’d love to hear what kinds of activities you would like to take part in. Email me at [email protected] with your suggestions. And thanks again!
r I V E r r a m B l I N G S
Thank you for filling our cup and moreI WAnT TO STArT by thanking you. Once again, you showed up for us. Last month was big for us, because we had both our annual golf tournament and the Tin Cup Challenge.
It was so much fundraising! And you all helped knock it
out of the park. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for believing in our mission and helping support our programs and seniors.
On another note, I can’t believe how quickly this summer is flying by. I wanted to do ALL of the things this summer, and have managed to do only SOME of the things on my list.
I’m sure you can all relate. While SWOT has a few more summer programming events up its sleeve for this month, we’re also gearing up for more indoor activities.
If you haven’t had a chance to participate in any of our programming yet, please consider tuning in this autumn for some new and improved activities.

tell us about your background:
I grew up in norman, Okla., and studied psychology and biology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. I was a middle school math and science teacher for eight years and then decided to move into the health-care profession. I went to nursing school at the University of Southern Maine in Portland and have practiced as a nurse for the past nine years in Jackson.
What brought you to teton Valley?
After living in Jackson for eight years – and almost moving to Teton Valley a half dozen times during those years – we finally moved to Victor last summer.
how and why did you get involved with seniors West of the tetons?
My good friend and neighbor, Allie Mollenkof, shared her positive experience with SWOT, and I was interested in helping seniors maintain
and improve their health and well-being. I began hosting a monthly “Healthy Seniors” presentation on a variety of health topics and recently joined the board.
What do you like about being involved with sWot?
I like being part of an impactful organization with people who come from many different backgrounds with a variety of life experiences to share. I am grateful to be able to facilitate discussions and share knowledge that can benefit the health of the seniors in our community.
When not at work or volunteering for sWot, what do you like to do?
I enjoy running, hiking, yoga, skiing, camping, and exploring new places.
tell us about your family.
I have a wonderful husband, Derek, and a fabulous 6-year-old daughter, Cora.
What is one health tip you would stress for seniors?
It’s never too late to better understand the factors that influence your health and to set goals to maximize your quality of life. Little changes can make a big difference in your health.
What is the best part of living in teton Valley?
The beautiful, unobstructed view of four seasons, the abundance of recreational opportunities for our family and the caring, friendly people of the community.

Seniors West of the Tetons recently had two art activities – plein air painting with Sue Tyler at the home of Leslie roth, chair of the Teton Arts Board, and a clay hand-building class with Teton Arts Executive Director Greg Meyers. The courses for seniors were possible through a grant from the Community Foundation of Teton Valley. Classes continue each month through December. Check the activities calendar on Page 6 each month and register at tetonseniors.org/art.
seniors dig the arts
Seniors West of the Tetons hosted its second annual Picnic in the Park. Seniors ate for free, thanks to David Chairez of Subway in Victor, who provided sandwiches and condiments. He is shown, above left, with Board Member nell Fay, who arranged the donation. Seniors enjoyed gathering outside in the Driggs City Park to have lunch and eat ice cream sandwiches. Thanks to Broulim's Fresh Foods for providing flowers.
summer time, picnic time
It's not easy carrying a banner and walking a bike, but Anna and Ken Kirkpatrick led the way for SWOT's blue-haired lady and a crew of volunteers dressed as active seniors of Teton Valley. The SWOT team threw candy and blew bubbles into the crowd.

Palmer’s Penstemon: I’d never seen this wildflower, and there was one solitary plant amid the dried weeds along the bike path. After looking it up, I learned that it was one of the only penstemon plants that gives off a scent. Wish I’d smelled it! It’s gorgeous!

If you have weeds in between the bricks or cracks of your terrace, salt can be effective in eliminating them. Just sprinkle some between the cracks and make sure it goes into the soil by pressing it in with your hands. The weeds should disappear quite rapidly.
