A visit to Trevor and Sue Toughs On Saturday 1st July the rain tipped down in Bullsbrook but that didn't deter nearly 40 HCVC members, partners and friends to visit Trevor and Sue Toughs property before they sold it. Hot soup, fresh bread, plenty of conversation and some tall stories filled the afternoon. A very wet day with some much needed rain. The photos are a bit dark and if you look closely you will see some of the trucks parked in water. Thanks to Trevor and Sue for putting a great day on.

President’s Report for July 2017.

Well what a great night we had at the spaghetti house. The weather was real winter but we got on with it and enjoyed ourselves and had a good night out, we must do this more often. If any members can advise the club of somewhere north or east or west e.g. Rottnest, can please notify our hard working events organiser. Over twenty members and their partners attended, even the people that did not like spaghetti could order something else and en-joyed themselves. The club has a lot of new members that have settled in really well and enjoy the club and company. Within a club you always get the odd person who is unhappy, well if you do not like where you are, leave and do not hang around and make everyone else life miserable because you are miserable. We had a great inspection day with at least thirty members and their family, even some of the public walked in for a sticky beak. Great day, great weather and great people. Those who did not attend missed out on a good day please try and come next year. Peter Swift.

A few photos from the Spaghetti night out, yes there was some rocket fuel consumed and some of the yarns told were true. A good night out at the Fifth Avenue Café Beaconsfield

Annual Inspection Day On the last Sunday in July the HCVC members, partners, friends and a few others went to Peter and Jenny Swifts place for the annual inspection. Peter and Jenny made their well equipped workshop and pit available for the inspec-tion day, thank you both.

After a week of wet weather the sun shone brightly and everyone rolled up. More than 30 people attended, ten vehi-cles were inspected and everyone enjoyed the day in front of Peter and Jennys workshop. Reg Blewett and Ron Devenish did a great job inspecting the vehicles while we all sat back in the sun. Members vehicles all presented well and no major faults were found. Vehicles ranges from utes through to road train rated prime movers.

At lunch time the food rolled out, what a great spread, thanks to Jenny for the soups, curries and chicken platters along with plenty of cakes and slices that other members brought along.

This truck was purchased new in 1936 by the Koorda Shire Council and they operated it for seven years, until it was sold to a local farmer Mr Naon Mighall. He used it on his farm Dine Hall about seven miles out from Koorda, along the Bencubbin Road. In 1964 Mr Mighall gave the truck to his daughter Pat, who had recently mar-ried Don Strahan of Kulja. They used the truck until they moved to Perth in 1970. It then sat where it was parked, gradually sinking into the sand until the current owners res-cued it. By this time, alt-hough mostly intact, the vehicle was derelict. The wooden frame of the cab and the tray were com-pletely rotten and all the mechanical components were either seized or full of water. The back corners had been cut out of the cab to allow the over large tray to be moved forward, with the new corners fash-ioned out of corrugated iron.

Trevor and Sue Tough picked the truck up from the farm at Kulja on 8th August 2007. After sitting for more than 37 years it has now been fully restored and rebuilt from a bare chassis. All mechanical com-ponents have been restored. Trevor and Sue Tough at the front with Reg Blewett and Pe-ter Collins checking out the motor in the Inter.
