President Patches
Well here it is, the beginning of the end of summer, “August”. As I have said before where does time go. I am here in Spokane waiting for my Great granddaughter to be born. A very exciting time. On June 2nd we said goodbye to my Mother as she passed away so how fitting that I should be able to welcome a new member to my family.
As I am nearing my end of being President I look back over the last two years and remember all the time and energy everyone has spent making the past two years a success. Both the Education Conference and the Quilt Show were great. All the other activities have been very well organized and carried out. That shows that we have a great group of ladies who make our guild a great one. Thank you to everyone that has made my tenure a success.
Keep Smiling
Dianne

One or more volunteers are needed
to assist on guild meeting days.
Barb Quamme and Donna Beal arrive at 8:30 to open the
door and move the long tables to the wall for registration,
membership and other uses. They also roll out the two
cupboards that house the library and miscellaneous sup-
plies as well as put them away at the end of the meeting.
One or more members to assist would be appreciated as
the tables and cupboards are both heavy and awkward.
If you can come early or stay late and are willing to help,
please contact Barb at [email protected] or
218-773-3170.
Hostess Notes
We have a new location for meetings as well as many new
members so we feel this is a good time to remind everyone
on what to do to hostess.
5-6 members are needed to affordably feed 65 to 75
attendees. If you sign up to be hostess and cannot
attend, please find a substitute.
Suggestions for food are cookies, bars or muffins;
fruit and juice; cheese and crackers; and nuts (these
are only suggestions, you are the hostesses and you
decide what you would like to serve).
Arrive by 8:30 or 8:45 to start making coffee. The
switch for the large coffee maker is in the fuse box on
the back wall. It must be turned on or the coffee
maker will not work. It takes up to an hour to
warm up before coffee can be made. For decaf use
the smaller coffee pots. Use the church coffee filters.
Coffee and treats should be served at 9:30 and
may be left out for 11:00 break (afternoon workshop
is not included).
Do not use church supplies. NSQG will provide
coffee, sugar and creamer, cups (for coffee and juice),
small plates, napkins and forks. NSQG supplies are
kept in the rolling guild cabinet in room 2. Where
possible, all NSQG supplies are labeled. You may use
church trays and cutlery (large spoon, forks, spatulas,
etc.) for serving.
Clean and put away any items belonging to the
church. Drain and turn off the coffeepot and fuse box
switch. After cleaning, place any NSQG supplies on
the front counter so they can be put away. (This will
allow Donna and Vicki to see what needs to be replen-
ished.

Treasurer’s Report
I have acquired a large wooden hand quilting frame
from a friend who had to go into assisted living and
wants someone who will use it to have it. She is giving it
away (she was afraid her kids would throw it out). It is
large enough to accommodate a queen size quilt so it
would take a large space to set it up. I brought it over
to the church and put it in the room where we store the
wooden cases. It is apart so it is not taking up much
room. I will not be at the August meeting but will check
email when I am away. Contact me by phone or email.

QuiltED CON October 21-23
Fall is just around the corner and that means we are looking ahead to QuiltED CON. We're excited about the classes being offered this year. There seems to be something for everyone--whether you consider yourself a beginner or a more experienced quilter.
While Catherine Redford's Saturday class is full, there is still room in her Sunday Happy Scrappy Improv class.
Or perhaps the curved piecing that Annette Ornelas has mastered intrigues you. There is still room in both of her classes.
OR ...
Maybe you want to explore an original pattern written by one of our own guild members. Actually, you could choose between two--Tina Hylton's Northern Frost Sampler and Liz Mattson's I Spy Quilt--or even take them both!
Jackie Marks' Circle of Geese looks so appealing and is the perfect class for an October day.
If you've never made a Project Bag before, I can tell you from experience that Pam Peterson is great at guiding you step by step to a completed project.
Okay, you've made your quilt and now it's time to put the finishing touches on it. Laura Gingerich is just the person to help you brush up on your binding skills.
I've wanted to make a Fabric Bowl for years but have felt a little intimidated. Jolene Mikkelson's class is just the ticket!
Finally, don't forget about the Sunday Morning Sew: five hours of sewing on your own to complete a Saturday class or just to spend time with friends working on one of your UFOs.
Now is the time to register for classes. Download a registration form from the website today (northstarquilters.org). You can either mail it in or bring it to the guild meeting on August 6th.
NSQG Outreach News
Outreach Outlook Sending out a huge thank you to all guild members. You con-tinue to amaze and support! We had an outstanding donation of 67 Quilts and 13 Pillow-cases at our June meeting. They were accepted into the grateful hands of Janet Burns, our representative from North East Human Services. From there they will be dis-tributed to foster care children and other such situations that NEHS deem deserving of a quilt. Again, thank you for your continued support of our primary outreach program.
NSQG Outreach Protocol In past years, a protocol for the distribution of outreach donations was discussed and voted on. It is important that this information be reiterated. The board is in the process of reviewing this protocol so that it can be presented again to our membership. Our plan is to have this statement ready for publication in our next newsletter. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We realize, with the won-derful growth of our guild, we need to share this infor-mation for clarification from time to time.
Keep quilting from your heart, Outreach Co-Chairs: Marilynn and Sandy
