“They devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and fellowship, to the

breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

Dear Friends

The Vestry wanted to ensure that Dana and his legacy were remembered not only in the

minds and memories of many but also in the minutes of the Vestry and, therefore, as part of the

historical record of Grace Church.

John Dana Outten

May 27, 1958 June 19, 2016

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7

These words that Saint Paul penned from his prison cell to his beloved Timothy come easily

to our minds as we remember our beloved Dana.

His fight was an epic and courageous fight against an unrelenting foe.

His race was more like a decathlon than a single contest. Dana’s love for his family served

as a shining example to one and all. His professionalism and compassion made him a

community resource in Plymouth and Columbia. And his tireless and decades long devotion to

Grace Church made him a hero to several generations of parishioners.

His faith, surely his faith, the faith that he kept on the darkest days will endure in the minds

and memories of all those blessed to have known him.

An accounting of the tasks and things, both known and unknown, that Dana did for Grace

Church would stretch over the horizon in all directions. No task was too small or too big or too

thankless for Dana. He relished them all and thrived when something else was added to his full

plate.

In the history and annals of Grace Church, John Dana Outten will be remembered and

revered by all of us and many others as a mighty blessing. A mighty blessing.
