CAMP EAGLE

Crystal Riff and 10 NF children attended Camp Eagle. Thank you so much for all your prayers and support. The children had an adventurous week - from

rappelling, zip-lining, cooking,

swimming, mountain biking, as well as learning many stories in the Bible throughout the week. They were blessed with wonderful counselors, growing stronger friendships with their fellow campers, meeting new friends, and most importantly,

gaining a stronger love for God and knowing He should be put above all else. Thank you again for supporting these children.

It is hard to believe summer is coming to an end and teachers will be preparing for their new students! Well, August is also when UMW begins planning for 2016 and new members! On Wednesday, August 5th at 2:00 pm we will meet in the home of Mary Heiligman. Mary is our treasurer and will be presenting the program “Welcoming Through Giving”. Members new and experienced alike will learn about where our pledge monies go to help out here and abroad! Please consider joining us and making a difference. Our hostess will be Naomi Fredr iksson. Our unit is so appreciative of Jennifer LaPorte our Youth Director for her very informative program at our July meeting. Jennifer summarized this year’s lessons with the youth through scripture, questions/answers and song. We know our youth are in very good hands! In other news, our members voted to participate in the Candle Burning ceremony at the 2015 District Meeting. The candle will be burning for one minute in memory of these church members: Bill Wheeler, Irene Muennink, Bill Strahan, Nancy Heinlein, Jan Oefinger, and James Gooding.. Our unit donated twenty-five dollars to help defray transportation costs of the health kits that UMCOR distributes. The health kits were collected at Mission U, as the 2015 Action Project. On Sunday, July 19 members hosted the 30th Street nursing home visit and what a blessing it was! Joyful Noise provided uplifting songs and Naomi Fredriksson led a very moving devotion followed by the Lord’s Prayer. Our church family then greeted the approximately twenty residents that were in attendance. God’s Peace be with you Karen Muennink, Vice-President

BACK TO SCHOOL AND UMW!

“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NRSV) Although we are entering into the hottest part of the summer, it won’t be long before “summer” is over and we head back into our school or fall routines. Teachers and athletes will be back at school within the next few weeks. Classes will be in session for everyone else on August 24th. Families are getting in those last summer trips before buying school clothes and supplies. And the rest of us continue to pray for a break in the heat, and a little bit of rain! Whether it is end of summer plans, or back to school plans, there is a lot going on.

At the Administrative Council meeting on July 28th, discussion revolved around planning both for Sunday School space and information provided by the Site Planning Committee. Several of the adult Sunday School classes are reviewing their attendance and space needs, and there will be some switching of classrooms in the near future. If your class is one of the ones that will be meeting in a different place, thank you for your patience and coop-eration as we make this transition. We are trying to provide the best possible resources to ena-ble classes to grow and thrive.

The Site Planning Committee provided results from the topographical study about elevation changes on the church property and where natural drainage will occur. This infor-mation is important when deciding where to locate buildings, roads and parking places. Ac-cording to the church vote earlier in the year, the Barbeque Hut was the first priority. While looking at the best place for the Hut, the issue of adequate parking came up, since the parking lot is nearly full on most Sundays and really full on high attendance Sundays.

The Site Planning Committee felt that it would be a wise use of funds to do the site work for additional parking concurrent with the site work for the Barbeque Hut. They brought their report to the Administrative Council for information purposes, with a suggestion that parking be addressed along with the preparation for the Hut. A motion was passed by the Administrative Council to proceed with the construction of the Barbeque Hut and to provide additional parking spaces as funds are available, with a goal of completing the additional parking by Christmas Eve 2015.

Information is still being gathered about the cost of paving, as well as how much area will be paved, keeping in mind the overall goals of a new worship space and adequate Sunday School and meeting space. Before work begins on the Barbeque Hut or parking, the Site Committee will bring more concrete plans and costs back to the Administrative Council for review.

It is a lofty goal to have this work done by Christmas Eve, and one that will take effort on everyone’s part to keep on track. I am greatly encouraged by the expertise located within this congregation, and the willingness to do the things they can to move things forward. I would ask that we all keep this process immersed in prayer and that our decisions and actions are in keeping with God’s plans for New Fountain UMC.

I look forward to seeing you in worship and Sunday School. Peace and grace, Pastor Joyce
