We’ve moved in!It’s been a long journey for the Auckland team as they were uprooted from their old premises and moved into their new purpose built facility in Penrose. We’ve been following this move through previous issues of OneTrack Mind, through our social media pages and from various email updates.

This July, they are finally up and running ready to provide their continued high levels of service as part of the VISA Global Group.

This new facility has a dramatically increased warehouse capacity to 4000 pallets, as well as now providing the full suite of warehouse services. The role we must all support now is to assist our New Zealand staff in generating warehousing business from our current client list and contacts. Although there are specific employees tasked with completing this goal, it’s up to all of us to support this expansion. If you know of a client you work with that has the potential to utilise warehousing services in Auckland, speak up and let your manager know so they can pass the lead onto our sales team.

The New Zealand branches of VISA Global Logistics have also changed their name from FCI-VISA Global Logistics to VISA Global Logistics Limited. Working under a completely unified brand aligns the strategic goals of company and allows VISA Global Logistics to continue to improve and grow their international reputation in freight forwarding and logistics.

The Auckland office will be hosting their official opening on Friday the 16th of August for clients, partners and people who have helped make this move possible.

The team also welcomes their new team member Luke Roberts who is starting as part of the Graduate program. Luke will be working within the Business Development sector of VISA Global Logistics. Our Auckland Warehouse & Transport Team are proudly displaying their new

Crown Forklifts and Reach Truck, as well as the brand new, purpose built 4000

pallet location Warehouse.

Khazaan adds “This really is a great facility with a great team driving it!”

VISA Global Logistics New Zealand General Manager Mr David Ballinger,

enjoying the start of the first day in the Penrose office.

A beautiful day in Penrose, Auckland as the team start moving in!

Services Warehousing Offering full suite of pick & pack and cross docking services, underpinned by “Paperless” WMS (same software as we use in Aust).

Airfreight Airfreight bondSeafreight FAK Packing & Unpacking for International & Coastal movements.MAF MAF approved facility (AQIS)Transport VISA Global Logistics Ltd is establishing its own branded transport operations (like we have

in Australia) which will include operational management via OneTrack and provide FCL, LCL and metropolitan distribution services.

Features Location Importantly the new facility is strategically located in Penrose, 500 metres from Metroport (Tauranga rail head) which handles 50% of the import & export container traffic for Auckland, 14KLM from the Auckland port which handles the other 50%, and 14KLM from Auckland airport.

VISA Global Logistics Ltd will be the only freight forwarder operating in the Penrose area, which is a much better location for distribution & a much better location for FCL transport operations than Auckland airport where most other freight forwarders operate warehouses etc.

Office Video conferencing facilities are being established to facilitate better levels of communication with other VISA group offices, and importantly to enable more detailed OneTrack training.

Robert in Shanghai has advised that Yuantai-VISA , Shanghai has completed the second shipment of three separate breakbulk consignments for the OPAT , Melbourne apartment project totalling 9518 cbms and 952 tons.

The complete cargo comprised  a total of 95 modules of varying out of gauge dimensions and gross weights , plus 6 x 20 ft containers of accessories.

The modules will all eventually be interlocked and built as one multiple storied apartment complex.

Two of the three consignments have been shipped with AustralAsia Line ( breakbulk service ) per their tween deck vessels on a liner term hook / hook basis with the most recent being 73 modules shipped on board the AAL Brisbane which departed Shanghai 16 July , 2013. The last seven modules will be shipped per AAL Pusan etd Shanghai 08 August , 2013.

The total project ocean freight and ancillary charges content is in excess of USD 730 K.

Special thanks to Richard  H, Frank V and Edward Y for their wonderful efforts in getting this project handled and shipped under the VGL banner!

Y-V update Cross tradeThrough 2013 Yuantai-VISA , China have really noticed an interest and development with many of the VGL sales team on so called cross trade business i.e. business that is managed and controlled by VGL customers in Australia , but in fact shipped direct ex Shanghai or various Chinese ports to world wide destinations.

The key to its success , for all parties, is the overall logistics management.

Of particular recent interest has been additional , regular and ongoing FCL container shipments ex China to UK , Canada , USA , The Grenadines and recent enquiries for intra Asian destinations , Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea.

Not included in this list of destinations is NZ where there is some good existing business , but where potential for VISA from existing AU customers is really quite enormous and we of course have our won VISA office.

The commodities vary greatly but include Agricultural Piping , Fishing Equipment , Flooring , Aircon accessories , Bathroom ware etc etc.

In most cases Y-V have an existing relationship with the Chinese suppliers / shippers and thereby the implementation processes for this cross trade type of business are very smooth and simple.

The shipments should all be managed through Onetrack and this again provides excellent transparency and visibility to both the VGL customer at origin in AU ( most important ) and the consignee at destination.

Ocean Freight and ancillary charges can be paid in Australia or likewise at destination by using the existing global network of VISA agents.

How can we secure this cross trade business? Simply by asking our very own existing and current VISA customers - either during our sales visits or via our customer service teams.

Melbourne NewsThe Facebook ‘like’ challengeSydney challenged Melbourne to beat their likes for

‘Office of the Week’

FINAL RESULTSSYDNEY 27 LIKES –

MELBOURNE 29 LIKES

Melbourne Pizza Day on 05/07/2013As always a great success, with the Melbourne staff gathering in the boardroom for a very healthy luncheon, lots of soft-drink and generally chit chat.

Supposed fire breaks out in the Melbourne officeOn 27th of June, a ‘supposed’ fire broke out in the Melbourne office. All staff were evacuated to the carpark, lights were off and two fire trucks pulled up. Out of this troup arrived a group of ‘average’ fire brigades, not unlike the ones you see in the calendars! Brad (who we now refer to as Fireman Brad) took charge of the situation, spoke to the fire brigade, taking major risks and kept the staff informed. All staff were sent home, only to find out the next day it was just a little smoke in the substation, which was craned off and replaced. The below picture shows how it felt and how we depict the story now (not actual)

The ‘VISA bet’After much convincing by all Melbourne staff, Ayden still would not shave of his beard!

So when it came to a North Melbourne VS Carlton match, Steve saw an opportunity like no other.

Happy Birthday Simon!Simon’s birthday was on 08/08/2013

A big Happy Birthday from all of us in the Melbourne office.

Melbourne sales ‘figures’ dropSome of the Melbourne sales team have been watching their figures lately with dramactic loss in KG’s not $$$$

Steve lost a whopping 24.5 kgs!

Leaving behind Brad losing 10kgs and Chris and Gino at 8kgs.

It has been very apparent around the office that the boys have been ‘watching what they eat’ and the significant weight lost shows their mission is being accomplished.

A big congratulations to all the boys in their achievement!

Richard Hammond also lost 6 kgs in the ‘Focus on Furniture Biggest Loser’ challenge. Congrats!

Adelaide driver Greg Leunig after delivering 1x20’ Open Top Con-tainer to Orlando Wines for a shipment ex Italy on behalf of our client COSTA ENTERPRISES.

Adelaide updateBrisbane blurbAs the year quickly passes by and end of financial year has come and gone, Bris-bane branch grows yet again with more bums than seats in our prosperous little abode. Our job numbers are relentless with our transport team quoting “the warehouse will be empty by June”, we forge forward and take on new clients, new opportunities and find that little bit more space that doesn’t exist.

The branch moved to night time pickups from the port to keep up with the flow of containers as our local and southern sales coun-terparts add to the tally count. The healthy TEU count competition between Adelaide and Brisbane ex China is still neck and neck with some new opportunities facing up that may see our branch surge ahead and leave the South Australians in our dust.

We have a new Graduate program introduction to the branch and a new team member John Scanlon whom started this month. John will move through the departments within our business before be-ing set free on the road to drum up some new business.

Our illustrious leader “the G man” returned from his leave in Bali over this period, refreshed and ready to crack some more heads in the near future and see if we find another level as we churn through the workload.

We celebrated Xmas in July at Ribs & Rumps in the valley but unfor-tunately, the teams antics and a visit from a space person, we are unable to supply evidence of the event and will hopefully supply some team photos from our branch in the near future.

New Graduate program team member John Scanlon

Perth’s Jennie Williams featured in Lloyd’s ListJennie Williams, who was featured last issue of OneTrack Mind for her work as President of the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia of WA, has been featured in the June 27issue of Lloyd’s List as part of ‘The Grill’ section.

Lloyd’s List is the leading daily newspaper for the maritime industry cover-ing all sectors of the shipping world.

Jennie’s inclusion highlights the expertise and effort of her work above and beyond, not just as President of the CBFCA in WA but also in her role at VISA Global Logistics.

This is just another example of the great work by our newest Australian office in Perth and the effort they are putting in to put VISA Global Logis-tics on the map out West.

Meet the team

This cheerful face meets you each time you visit the main office at our Port Botany location. Elizabeth took up the new challenge of receptionist early this year after working in customer service for a short time.

Each day Elizabeth could look after around 30 visitors and take 25 calls per hour as well as helping the pricing team and coordinating mail. She’s the first point of contact for anyone needing VISA Sydney and her happy demeanour and professionalism can mean the difference in how pleasant their visit is.

“I love meeting new people and reception is one of the best spots in the office to do so. I have also been educated in who our clients are and what countries we work out of.”

Elizabeth - Sydney reception

Punter - Brisbane Transport & Warehouse Manager

Michael, or Punter as he is better known, looks after the management of a team of 10 transport and warehouse staff in VISA Global Logistics’ Brisbane office. Although a busy and challenging role, Michael’s 6 years industry experience and 2 and a half years in VISA Global Logistics have well equipped him for his responsibilities.

However, it is also the busyness of this role that provides Michael with the work

satisfaction he needs. “What I like most is the diversity of the role I’m in and that the work involved changes every day. It keeps me motivated and challenged and ultimately keeps me interested in coming to work day to day. It’s really great working here.”

Paul - Adelaide ExportsPaul currently looks after air and sea exports for the Adelaide office, but has found that his geographic location hasn’t limited his ability to look after clients from all over the country. He was originally working in the Melbourne office, but Paul made the interstate move to be closer to his family.

“VISA is very family orientated. The directors are great and have really

supported me in this move. It means I can still work in the industry that I love but live the dream of working close to my family. Technology means geographic location is irrelevant these days. All my clients have adapted easily and I have found it easy to look after them just as well from here.”

Paul deals with clients on a day to day basis, sourcing the best prices from shipping companies and airlines and passing them on to his clients. With 15 years’ experience in exports, we’re very happy to have him as part of the team at VISA Global Logistics.

Bridget - Christchurch Sales RepWith 25 years’ experience in import/export operations, branch management and sales/client management, Bridget is an invaluable asset to our Christchurch team. Bridget started the FCI Christchurch office herself more than a decade ago and has built the team from the ground up. The company was acquired by VISA Global Logistics in 2009.

“What I like about VISA is that it is a privately owned company with easily accessible directors. Whenever I have an issue or an idea I can easily access and discuss this with the company directors and have the needs of VISA Christchurch heard and met.”

Bridget’s day to day work could include anything from customer service or sales through to negotiating shipping lines. Helping her handle this workload isthe flexibility she needs to look after herself in her non-work life. Her part time schedule and support from VISA Global Logistics means the Christchurch office can benefit from her expertise and experience while still giving Bridget a true work/life balance.

Ivy - Melbourne OperationsThis year in May marked 7 years with VISA Global Logistics for Melbourne team member Ivy. Working in import operations; Ivy, along with her counterpart Pear, look after the China trade lane into Melbourne. This involves collaborating job details and documentation, checking the details

Keep a look out for more team member spotlights in the upcoming edition of our external newsletter Inside VGL

on each shipment, coordinating with shipping lines and passing on the correct documentation to the right departments.

There’s good reason that Ivy has stayed with VISA Global Logistics for the past 7 years; “I like VISA and I love working here. Everyone in the office is friendly and nice. Everyone in the operations department gets along and works as a team. It makes it a lot more enjoyable to work when the environment is like that.“

IT NewsFrom the desk of the Head Nerd

Greetings VISA!

New Zealand

The end of June/start of July saw FCI VISA Global Logistics move to its new premises supporting its new name, VISA Global Logistics Ltd.

The purpose built facility in Penrose is nothing short of spectacular, with the office areas deployed in the latest company colours.

Staff have already noted the improvement in facilities, many of which are much happier with the shorter trips to work!

Whilst I was in NZ, I also built a Network Tunnel between AU and NZ, meaning that AU IT Staff and Training Mentors now have access to the NZ sites, and can “remotely” assist our NZ staff.

Remember, all VGL NZ email address now end in @visaglobal.co.nz Please update your address books!

I must also make special note to Nicki Cookson for saving my life on the Saturday morning by producing Coffee. You Rock Nicki! Thanks again!

And an extra special thanks to Khazaan for hanging out and watching the Wallabies Victory! Thank Goodness the sea of Red Lions jerseys didn’t get too restless.

Australia

• We are in the midst of replacing our EDI Enterprise server, to a new, high capacity device. There will be an upcoming outage for the migration to the new server, however more information will come out on this as we prepare to go live.

• When you leave at the end of your work day, you MUST restart your PC. Im still seeing the same machines logged in overnight.

Make a conscious effort to ensure you adhere to this as it makes our lives a lot easier, as you will get updates as we approve them.

• Internet Access Requests. A big thank you to all staff who are doing the right thing and emailing IT Helpdesk and CC’ing your manager with the details of the site. Remember, Website URL, Is the site for a Client, Supplier or Prospective?

• Adam is working on the latest Desktop Image for your workstations with many improvements, we hope to have this rolled out in the coming two months!

• We are in the midst of renewing our network services, and we hope to be delivering a newer, faster network in the coming months.

I’d also like to thank all who have provided me with feedback of late regarding IT Support Services at VISA. We are taking your suggestions on board and hope that you see some improvements to support soon!!

Just a reminder to be wary of emails from The Australian Taxation Office and Banking Institutions. There has been a surge of late of fake emails going around Australia due to the End of Financial year, and Scammers and Hackers are currently trying to cash in. Remember, Your Financial institutions will never ask you to disclose account details or password via email communication. When using Internet Banking Websites, always ensure that the begging of the url states HTTPS:// at the begging. This way you can ensure it is a secure website. Also make sure that the trailing information is relevant to your bank or financial institution, eg https://www.westpac.com.au or https://www.stgeorge.com.au

If at anytime you feel your banking details may have been compromised, contact your financial institution immediately!

As always, the VISA IT Team are always available to assist with any problems or issues you are experiencing.

All you have to do is contact us!

Paul

Paul has worked out how to make EDI Enterprise faster on the next server build - just add a turbocharger!

Thank you to Paul for some of the wonderful new pictures included in this issue of OneTrack Mind of the new Auckland facility.
