(Only during the school session of preschool.) When I was a kid (the cutoff age for that is debatable) I DID NOT like practicing piano or guitar. My guitar teacher was in his 70s, Joe Glenn, and when I would exit a lesson with a good report my dad would make a comment about the sus- pectness of Joe’s hearing. Dad knew my lack of practice. People who impress are those whose actions are consistent with their words. People whose actions are consistent with their words practice. Practice makes all the difference in the world. Larry Bird, in his playing days, spent hours upon hours before and after team practice, practicing his shot. Victor Oladipo went from a guy with a lot of potential to the number 2 draft in the NBA lottery because of relent- less practice. Several times recently I have run across this sentiment. For instance, a follower of Christ named G. Campbell Morgan said in his book about prayer, “I have cho- sen as the general title of this book "The Practice of Prayer," because the purpose of its publication is preemi- nently practical. Any discussion of the doctrine of prayer which does not issue in the practice of prayer is not only not helpful, it is dangerous.” Practice is the root of the word prac- tical and practical is the real ques- tion of faith. The Christian faith is practical – eminently so. John Wesley did not write out a doctrinal system- atic theology – he wrote sermons and letters. His theology has been described as “practical theology”. For some in intellectual circles this is a criticism; for others it is a recogni- tion that Wesley’s understanding of faith was “rubber meets the road”. Practicing faith is “building on the rock”, it is “doing unto others”, it is being “doers and not only hear- ers”, it is “unto the least of these” living. It is not saying, “Lord, Lord” it is living as though the Lord is in charge. Practicing faith combats one of the oldest disappointments heard from the heart of God, “lip service is all I get”. In athletics, practicing means doing the minute, often unno- ticed tasks, over and over until there develops “muscle memory”, a kind of grooved-into-the-muscle pattern of behavior. Makes sense to me that maybe practicing faith might do the same for the faith muscle. Looking back I think maybe ole Joe was too easy on me when it came to learning the guitar. I can still see my dad wag- ging his head in good natured kid- ding. I wonder what my other Father is thinking about my practice habits. Something to think about… wait, no! Something to do something about. Pastor Dave

Thank you for all your support dur-ing my mom’s illness and after her passing. Many thanks to the mem-bers who helped with delivering meals to my father. Thank you for the use of the church for the ser-vices and dinner afterwards.

Much appreciation to those who helped cook and serve the meal for our family. Pastor Dave, words can’t express my gratitude to you for all you have done. The funeral service was awesome, mom would have loved it.Blessings to all, Cyndi Good Miller

Welcome to PUMC, Benjamin, Jennifer & Olivia Sprout! Benjamin has been a member of PUMC since childhood. With great pleasure we welcome the entire family, as they transfer their Methodist membership from Lizton United Methodist Church. Although the Sprouts

are not new to PUMC, it is still good to let them know you appreciate them. They chose to worship with US! …and we can’t forget Mike & Jill Hostetler! They have trans-ferred BACK to PUMC from Maryland. We are grateful!

WELCOME!

Dear Pastor Dave & Congregation,

The HS Mission Team that went to Joplin is home and has a lot of great stories to tell. Feel free to talk to any-one of us about how much this trip meant to us. PUMC was able to help build a house from the ground up, build a play structure for a community center, replace a fence that was ripped away by the tornado, and put a new addition on a house that was flattened by the tor-nado. We also served folks with post traumatic stress syndrome, loved and were loved on by one of the dear-est ladies you could ever meet, and in general met the needs of a recovering com-munity. We had the won-derful opportunity to work with youth and adults from Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Finally we were

able to worship Jesus Christ with each other by singing, screaming, dancing, foot-washing, praying, and ham-mering. It was a tremen-dous, humbling experience.

We would like to thank Next Step ministries for hav-ing the vision to establish mission opportunities for youth that are meaningful, challenging, and worship
