MOTHER OF THE CHURCH
Today our Church celebrates the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This feast celebrates the mystery that Mary at the end of her life here on earth was taken body and soul into God’s heavenly kingdom where she lives forever not only as the Queen of Heaven, but also as Mother of the Church.
While the mystery of her Assumption is certainly a privilege that is unique to Mary, it also represents the culmination of her life of discipleship that we too hope one day to share.
Mary, Mother of the Church, inspires us to seek her intercession and imitate her example as we live our lives as disciples of the Lord.
As Mother of God, Mary enjoyed such unique blessings as her Assumption which we celebrate today, but as Mother of the Church, she shares in our humanity and in our experience of living as followers of Jesus.
Let us rejoice as we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Mother of God and Mother of the Church!

After Jesus, we look to Mary as our model of stewardship. Her entire life was lived in obedience to God’s will. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of Christ. Like Mary, we too are called to reflect Christ to the world. We do this by living grateful and generous lives. We do this by putting other’s needs before our wants.

NEW DAILY HOLY HOURS, AND DAILY MASS IN SPANISH Starting September 6, the following opportunities for Adoration (silent, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament) and liturgy will be added to our schedule:• Morning Holy Hour: Monday - Saturday, 8 - 9am • Evening Holy Hour: Monday - Friday, 6 - 7pm• Daily Mass in Spanish: Monday - Friday, 7pm. (The
7:30pm Mass on Monday, Thursday, and Friday will be changed to 7pm.)

DID YOU KNOW? THE MEANING OF “MASS”Whether you were baptized as an infant and raised in the Catholic Church or made the choice to become Catholic through the RCIA, you may have questions about the Catholic faith. For example, where does the word “Mass” come from? What does it mean? The English term “Mass” comes from the Latin word “missa”. In Latin, the Mass concludes with the words “Ite missa est,” which means “Go, it is sent.” In this context, “it” is the Church – you and me! We are dismissed (the English word derived from “missa” to continue Jesus’ mission to “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord”.
RCIA BEGINS SEPTEMBER 15 AND 16RCIA is the process by which anyone age 7 and older is received into the Catholic Church. Some who enter the RCIA are unbaptized and others have been baptized into another Christian tradition and wish to be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. RCIA meetings:• Adults (age 18+) will begin on Wednesday September 15
(in both English and Spanish)• Children (age 7-17) will begin on Thursday, September 16 Contact Joan for more details.

SHEPHERD’S GATE GRANT 2021 RECIPIENTSAlice’s Kids: is a national charity that provides direct financial assistance to children for “minor” but nonetheless important needs in a way that preserves their dignity and helps them feel more “normal” amongst their peers. The program works through referrals through teachers, school counselors, and county social workers (or church directors of ministry) who identify a child and his or her need. It might be a pair of cleats, glasses, music lessons, or summer camp fees. This is a hands-on, creative service that strives to never say “no” to a child in need. The grant provides assistance to children in our area.
