“Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such

questions.” Ecclesiastes 7:10 NIV

Transitioning from high school to college is a big step. Not only does a teen have to

decide between work or school but what job or what school. If he/she is moving away

from home, talk about personal responsibility, possible homesickness, and expectations for the first year away from home. Discuss the importance of developing friends and

joining clubs or sports teams to help adjust to the new environment. Explain how time management, proper sleep, and a healthy

diet will help keep stress and anxiety low. For you as parent, know that your teen will come home a different person. He/she will be more

independent after a year of making his/her own decisions. Even while you struggle with the change, embrace the difference and his/

her first steps to adulthood.

MOSAIC CLASS….for all ages of adultsSunday mornings, 9:15 a.m.

Taught by a wonderful variety of masterful teachers, the class will provide an environment of community and care for its members. The weekly Bible lesson

will be taught by some of FBC’s outstanding experienced teachers who will rotate from their regular class into this class at scheduled times to teach from some of their favorite Bible passages. Do you wish you could hear from many

of our Bible teachers at FBC? Would you like to learn teaching methods by participating in a class that will expose you to a variety of teaching styles?

This class offers an exciting opportunity for Bible study and discipleship in the community of fellow learners and rich teaching from the wealth of Bible study

leaders throughout FBC.

To help us make correct room assignment for this class, your pre-enrollment is requested. Please contact the Adult Ministry Office ([email protected]; 256-428-

9403) to sign up or for more information.

Several years ago, your church retrofitted your church bus into a ‘Stories on Wheels’ bus which you brought to Helena, AR and gave to Together for Hope Arkansas. It is such a blessing and is being heavily used

during these two weeks of the summer 2011 All Church Challenge.

Jane Hull and George Bugg are two that I remember being heavily involved in leading our Youth and RA & GA groups in retrofitting

the bus.

Lakewood Elementary School TutoringFor the rest of August we will be signing up those interested in providing assistance to students at Lakewood Elementary with growing skills primarily in reading and math. Our goal is to provide a tutor for each student in need of extra learning opportunities. We will ask that most of our volunteers donate an hour a week. For those who cannot be there every week, consider volunteering once every two weeks or once a month.

Tutor TrainingFor three Sunday nights, August 14, 21, and 28 at 5:00 during Foundations for Life, we will provide training sessions to prepare for being a tutor at Lakewood Elementary. The first week we will discuss various ways to get to know the students and some do’s and don’ts. The second week, we will have some experienced tutors who will share some of their experiences with us. The third Sunday, Ms. Lindsey, Curriculum Specialist at Lakewood, will provide specific information about the procedure at Lakewood.

School VisitMs. Lindsey will then provide us a time to visit the school, find the places to sign in, meet the students, and other information.

BrochureThis month you will find in your Sunday School boxes, at the Welcome Centers, and in the Office a brochure for signing up to help in some way at Lakewood this year. Along with individual volunteers your class or department can also indicate your interest in helping in some way. Take a brochure and see the many ways that we have the opportunity to provide a love and care for students and educators in Lakewood School this year.

This week we celebrate and give thanks to God for the ministry we have shared with Jud Reasons. Jud joined the staff of FBC in August of 2006. As our Associate Pastor, Jud gives excellent coordination to the various ministries throughout the life of our church. His administrative gifts combined with a passion for the church and a love of people equip him well for the work that he

does at First Baptist. When you see Jud, Anne, Blake or Kyle in the hallway of the church, share your words of encouragement and appreciation with them. Thank you Jud for a wonderful five years of ministry in our midst and we look forward to many more years of service together.
