•WELCOME•

STEWARDSHIP: Elijah recognized the voice of God not in the strong and heavy wind, not in the earthquake, and not in the fire, but in a tiny whispering sound. May we find enough quiet in our clamorous world to hear His voice and discern what He is calling us to do and be.

•A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT•

Please Remember in Your Prayers: Steven Grethen and Richard Johnson. May the Lord grant peace and consolation to is family in their time of need. May he and all who sleep in Christ, find in God’s presence, light, happiness and peace.

TO OUR GUESTS

We hope that God will grant you peace and rest while you are under our roof today.

May this church be your “second” home.

May those you love be near you in thought and prayer.

Even though we may not get to know you, We pray that you will be comfortable and happy as if you were in your own church home.

May whatever need brought you our way find a hearing by God.

When you leave, may your journey be safe.

We pray you God’s peace.

Today’s Gospel reveals what miraculous things can happen when one embraces a single-minded faith in Jesus Christ. Peter gets out of a wind-tossed boat when the Lord calls him. His faith is tested by his obedience to Jesus who is calling him out onto the water. In the midst of the waves and the wind, Peter gets out of the boat and walks toward Jesus. Good stewards heed Christ’s call to them. Sometimes that call directs them to take on seemingly impossible challenges. This week, reflect on how the Lord could be calling you out of the safety of your own “boat” to take on the impossible.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary This feast is a very old solemnity in the church. It has been celebrated throughout the church from the sixth century on. Originally celebrated in the East, the ancient title is the Dormition of Mary, or the Falling Asleep of Mary. The earliest writing we find of this feast is from the fourth century and it is written in the voice of St. John, whom Jesus entrusted Mary to the care of as he hung upon the cross. The teaching is that Mary was assumed into heaven after her "falling asleep in the Lord" before her body suffered any decay. This doctrine of the church--even though the church has been celebrating this belief for centuries--was not declared a dogma until November 1, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. While the Eastern Orthodox call this event the "dormition," the Roman Catholic Church calls it the Assumption. The holy day has always been celebrated in the church on Aug. 15.
