AUGMENTED REALITY. REALITYAUGMENTED DAIN JUN G. Slide 2 WHAT IS AUGMENTED REALITY? Basically it is a BRIDGE between the real life and virtual world. Augmented reality(AR) generates a combination of real-world and computer-generated data. At present, most AR research is concern ed with the use of live video imagery which is digitally processed a nd "augmented" by the addition of computer-generated graphics. + Slide 3 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BWTEEN Ar AND VR? Augmented Reality can be considered as an extension of Virtual Reality (VR). However, in VR environment, the user is immersed in a n artificial world and becomes divorced from the real environment, while in AR environment, the user maintains a sense of real world. The virtual images are embedded into the real world context to creat e the augmented system. Slide 4 Applications Of ar (click blue words!) 1.Medical IGS(Image- Guided Surgery): Imagine looking inside the body and se eing everything in precise, three-dimensional detail. 2. AR could be extended to include sound. The user would wear headphones equipped with microphones o n the outside. The headphones would add synthetic, directional 3 D sound, while the external microphones would detect incoming s ounds from the environment. Thus, one can cancel selected real i ncoming sounds and add others to the system. This is not easy, b ut possible. AR has a great future as it promises better navigation and intera ction with real and virtual world in ways which has previously bee n unimaginable. Dstricts Digilog Samulnori (edited version.) Within the next decade, we are going to see an increasing amount of augmented reality entering our daily lives. As the role of Augmented Reality in our lives is increased, it does not just enhance our awareness of environment, but it can easily control/augment our cognition. Therefore, we should adopt a thoroughly critical attitude both to what we see and what have been shown. Slide 9
