Housekeeping items

The purpose of this meeting is to explain service changes effective Monday, September 1, 2014.

Silence all cell phones.

Be considerate of meeting attendees and COTA staff.

When it is your turn to make a comment or ask a question about COTA’s service changes, remain at your seat and we will call upon you.

Comments and questions are limited to two minutes per person.

Participants are encouraged to complete comment cards.

Ask one question at a time so the appropriate COTA staff member may address your comment.

Timelines

COTA modifies service three times per year: First Monday of:

January May September

September 2014 changes will begin on Monday, September 1.

Service operated will be Sunday/Holiday service due to Labor Day holiday.

Line 1 Cleveland Ave. (Weekday) Two earlier a.m. trips are now available traveling to the Westerville

Park & Ride.

Line 2 E. Main (Weekday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 2 E. Main (Sunday) Frequency of service in the evening is improved to 30 minutes

until 9:00 p.m. Last 2T bus leaves High and Broad at 9:00 p.m. The last 2R bus

leaves High and Broad at 8:35 p.m.

Line 2 N. High (Weekday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 2 N. High (Sunday) 15-minutes service is extended from North Street to Park of Roses

from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Service will continue at 30-minute frequency between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Line 3 Northwest Blvd (Weekday) The bus leaving Kingsdale at 10:33 p.m. now leaves at 10:28 p.m. Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

3 Northwest Blvd (Saturday) The bus leaving Kingsdale at 10:35 p.m. now leaves at 10:28 p.m. Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 3 W. Mound St. (All days) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 5 W. Fifth Ave. (Weekday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 5 W. Fifth Ave. (Sunday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 7 Neil (Weekday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 7 Neil (Saturday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 8 Frebis (Weekday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance. Service frequencies are improved slightly throughout the day.

Line 8 Frebis (Sunday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance. Service frequencies are improved from 50 minutes to 40 minutes.

Line 8 Hamilton Ave. (Weekday) All trips now begin and end at Busch and Shapter. Buses will no longer travel through Granville Centre at Karl and SR-

161. Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance. Service frequencies are improved slightly throughout the day.

Line 8 Hamilton Ave. (Saturday) Buses will no longer travel through Granville Centre at Karl and

SR-161.

Line 8 Hamilton Ave. (Sunday) Buses will no longer travel through Granville Centre at Karl and

SR-161. Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance. Service frequencies are improved from 50 minutes to 40 minutes.

Line 9 Leonard/Brentnell (All Days) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 15 Grove City (Saturday and Sunday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 16 Long (Weekday) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

New Park & Ride in New Albany COTA has partnered with the City of

New Albany to provide better service to employees at the New Albany Business Park and residents of New Albany.

New Park & Ride is located on Forest Drive.

Shuttles provided by City of New Albany will meet COTA buses at the new Park & Ride location and circulate employees through the business park.

New Albany lines (39 and 40) will be modified in conjunction with this new Park & Ride.

Line 38 Easton (Weekday) Alignment has been modified to

add the Sunbury Woods loop, previously served by line 39, to the beginning of line 38. Additionally, service through Strawberry Farms will be discontinued due to low ridership. Buses will begin at Valley Quail Blvd North and Sunbury Road, serve the Sunbury Woods loop, travel south on Sunbury Road, east on Stelzer Road to the Easton Transit Center, and then continue over the regular route.

Line 39 New Albany (Weekday) Alignment has been modified to serve the new New Albany Park &

Ride location. Line 39 will no longer serve the Little Turtle and Sunbury Woods deviations. Buses will now travel non-stop between the New Albany Park & Ride and Downtown Columbus. Additionally, the number of trips is increased from two to three in both the morning and the evening.

Line 40 New Albany (Weekday) In conjunction with the opening of the new New Albany Park & Ride,

the alignment of Line 40 has been modified. Line 40 will no longer travel along Cleveland Avenue, Innis Road and Stelzer Road to the Easton Transit Center. Instead, from Downtown Columbus, Line 40 will travel along I-670 and I-270 to access the Easton Transit Center, and then Sunbury Road and SR-161 to reach the new Park & Ride location.

Additionally, the number of trips has been increased from two to five in both the morning and evening.

Line 89 Hamilton Road (Weekdays and Saturday) Service is extended north from

Hamilton and Broad to the Meijer near Hamilton and Morse at a 30-minute frequency.

Line 89 Hamilton Road (Sunday) Service frequency is improved from 60 minutes to 30 minutes all

day.

Service is extended north from Hamilton and Broad to the Meijer near Hamilton and Morse at a 30-minute frequency.

Line 92 James/Stelzer (All Days) Travel times are adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Line 96 5th Ave. (Weekday) Service on the Rocky Fork loop is discontinued. Buses now travel

only on Hamilton, Morrison and Tech Center Drive in both directions.

Seasonal service is discontinued. Last day of service will be: Weekday – August 29 Saturday – August 30 Sunday/Holiday – September 1 (Labor Day)

Bus Stop Service Improvement Project

Project Goals: Optimally space bus stops

to balance the need for quick in-vehicle travel time with considerations of the distance that customers must walk to access bus stops

Improve operational efficiency

Reduce maintenance costs of underutilized bus stops

Improve travel times, where possible

Bus Stop Service Improvement Project

The following lines were analyzed for September 2014: Line 34 Karl Rd. (Express) Line 41 Gahanna (Express) Line 81 Hudson/Ohio (Crosstown) Line 96 5th Ave. (Crosstown)

Bus lines that share stops with the above lines may also be affected by bus stop changes as part of this project.

Bus Stop Service Improvement Project

A public comment period about these changes was held from June 9 through June 30, 2014.

Commuter Bulletins about final changes have been posted at all affected bus stops.

COTA update

COTA.com website is being redesigned.

COTA’s refurbished Transit Terminal at Columbus Commons is now open and the North Terminal will re-open in November 2014 as the Spring Street Terminal.

COTA is undertaking a Transit System Review Second round of public meetings were held May 28 – June 4 to

review the proposed final bus network design. Transit System Review report will be complete September 2014. Updated maps of the proposed network and Downtown operations

are available online. See website at www.cota.com/tsr for more information.

COTA update

Cleveland Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project Development: Environmental clearance approved by the Federal Transit

Administration (FTA) on July 25, 2014. Project Development activities for the proposed BRT line continue,

including preliminary engineering and design for stations and Park & Rides.

Public meetings were held in July 2014. Project application requesting federal funding will be submitted to

FTA by September 10, 2014. Next public meeting:
