Greetings! I hope you are all enjoying the warm long days of summer. In just two months we will be together in Charleston for the CAOG Annual Meeting which is shaping up to be exceptional. Frank and I are looking forward to seeing as many members and guests as possible. Condé Nast ranked Charleston the #1 City in the U.S. for the 4th year. Our hearts go out to the victims of the recent senseless hate shooting in Charleston. They remind us just how fragile and fleeting life can be and how important it is to make the most of every precious moment. This year the scientific program boasts strong original research including a number of prospective and randomized studies. The invited speakers and topics are likewise excellent, timely and infor-mative. Take a look at the program. In an effort to increase our publication rate in the AJOG, this year we offered manuscript assistance to authors. We had a very positive response from both the CAOG members who volunteered to review manuscripts, and authors requesting assistance. Thank you to all the members who offered their time and expertise in assisting young researchers. The CAOG is a great organization, and I have thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity

to work with many of you over the past ten months. The lasting friendships I’ve made through my involvement with the Central has been a highlight of my career. Once again I would like to thank Rochelle Hickel and Dennis Lutz for all the work they do for the CAOG with enthusiasm and management expertise year after year. See you in Charleston ! You won’t want to miss this venue with affordable hotel rates and a convenient location, too. Dr. Barbara Parilla, President

THE CENTRAL ASSOCIATION OF

OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNECOLOGISTS

82ND ANNUAL MEETING OCTOBER 21 – 24, 2015

THE CHARLESTON MARRIOTT 170 LOCKWOOD BOULEVARD

CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

CONFERENCE INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION

Welcome to Charleston, S.C. – The Finest in Southern Hospitality !

WELCOME TO CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

Final plans are almost complete for the 82nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Central Association of OB-Gyn at the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Boulevard overlooking the Ashley River. One of the friendliest and most visited cities in America, Charleston exudes southern charm and a wealth of American history. Among Charles-ton’s many United States “firsts” includes the first time a British flag was hauled down and replaced by an American flag in 1775. That’s almost 250 years ago! I’m hoping we can make the CAOG’s “first visit to Charleston” just as memorable in its own way. Reserve your hotel rooms and these dates immediately Oct. 21, 22, 23 and 24, 2015. On behalf of the Officers and Trustees, please join us in celebrating our great tradition of fellowship that is your Central Association. Barbara V. Parilla, M.D. – President, CAOG About The Marriott: Location is everything – only 20 minutes from the Charleston Airport with easy access to everything. The amenities abound from great dining, plantation visits, championship golf, fascinating historical tours to you name it. Every half hour the hotel shuttle or city trolley takes guests on a short ride to the Charleston Harbor waterfront. Think Fort Sumter National Monument where the Civil War began as well as 200 years of American history that predates that fateful event. Did you know that more Revolutionary War battles were fought in South Carolina than in any other American colony? The weather should be perfect in late October so make Charleston with the CAOG your CME priority this Fall. Room Reservations: The CAOG has reserved a block of rooms for the meeting starting at $179.00 per night (plus tax). To take advantage of this incredibly favorable rate, please be certain to identify yourself with the Cen-tral Association when registering. For room and other information please contact The Marriott reservation desk directly at 1-800-228-9290 and ask for CAOG Annual Meeting. The room block will sell out. Please support the CAOG by attending the Annual Meeting and using the Marriott. We have contracted for a room block; however The Marriott (and most other rooms in Charleston) sell out during October weekends. Call the CAOG office at 1-701-838-8323 if you need any help. Southern Dining: Always ranked highly as one of the best dining cities anywhere, Charleston is more than just “The City of Seafood.” No matter your tastes or budget you won’t be disappointed. You can never go wrong at Magnolias or its sister establishments next door named Cypress and Blossom. Just make reservations in advance unless you prefer to savor the unpredictability of a lucky find at the last minute ! Entertainment: You will not have enough time to enjoy the wealth of everything Charleston has to offer. A gen-eral small bus tour of the city is a great way to start followed by plantation trips, water taxis and row after row of museums, mansions, art galleries and shopping venues. The spectacular Ravenel Bridge closes for a day in March for a 6 mile run with 6000 friends from across the country but you’ll have to return to Charleston for that.

Spouse/Guest Program…. The traditional Spouse and Guest Reception is Thursday morning. Hosted by President Barb Parilla’s husband, Frank, you will be treated to an incredible opportunity with Charleston’s newest novelist, Dr. Roger Newman. A renowned M-F-M at nearby University of South Carolina Medical Center, Roger’s 2014 debut novel “Occam’s Razor” is a medical thriller well worth the read. To assist any would-be author, Roger will describe the writer’s process from inspiration to publication and everything in between. Come meet new friends, renew old acquain-tances and receive an autographed copy of “Occam’s Razor” from the author himself.

Scientific Program….

Original scientific research will be the focus of 22 oral presentations and twice as many poster presentations. Sunrise lectures, hot topics, and invited guest speakers will further highlight this outstanding CAOG program. The presidential theme centers around “balancing your professional and personal life” even as the practice of medicine changes around us. Please review the enclosed final program. You won’t want to miss a single talk.
