So you’re the new Beverly! You know, you’ve got big shoes to fill…Since I joined AIA Minnesota, this has been said to me a good number of times. And among those who haven’t said it, odds are pretty good they’ve thought it. Yes – I am the new executive vice president and, indeed, I have big shoes to fill. I couldn’t be more grateful and excited to be doing so. Taking on the position previously held by someone so beloved and so respected is a formidable undertaking, no question. But there are two great things about taking the baton from a “legacy leader”: First, you get to start with a strong foundation – an organization that has been built right, from the ground up. Second, that leader can be a tremendous resource. For my first two weeks here at AIA Minnesota, Beverly and I overlapped our time for four hours a day. She infused as much knowledge in me as that time would allow. More and more over the coming months, Beverly will have the chance to enjoy her retirement, and I will learn the ropes. (We joke that we’re going to do this so well that someday they’ll write a case study about us!) So then. Who is this new EVP? I consider myself a Minnesotan, having lived in Saint Paul for 18 years and been born of parents from Duluth. I value listening, questioning, and big ideas. I work to be collaborative and inclusive in all that I do. My Myers-Briggs assessment puts me off-the- scale high in terms of enthusiasm, and my approach is one of continuous improvement. I believe in the inherent integrity of the architecture profession. And I believe that architects have a unique combination of skills and attributes that position them to be leaders in creating a bright future – one that honors our history while growing the resilience and relevance of our buildings and communities. “So you’re the new Beverly! You know, you’ve got big shoes to fill…”

Since I joined AIA Minnesota, this has been said to me a good number of times.

(We joke that we’re going to do this so well that someday they’ll write a case study about us!)

So then. Who is this new EVP? I consider myself a Minnesotan, having lived in Saint Paul for 18 years and been born of parents from Duluth. I value listening, questioning, and big ideas. I work to be collaborative and inclusive in all that I do. My Myers-Briggs assessment puts me off-the-scale high in terms of enthusiasm, and my approach is one of continuous improvement. I believe in the inherent integrity of the architecture profession. And I believe that architects have a unique combination of skills and attributes that position them to be leaders in creating a bright future – one that honors our history while growing the resilience and relevance of our buildings and communities.

I am delighted to be serving as your executive vice president and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. My running shoes are on and I’m ready to go!
