S: Wow! That’s, wow! What’s on your tablet? Can I see?

K: Yeah, sure. It’s a French program. Look! I can learn French while I work out, too. I use my phone to do that. I listen and say the words.

S: Can you speak French now?K: A little. “Bonjour!”S: Wow! That’s great! Well, er, it’s time for our

show. I’m on the street today. See you.K: Hello and welcome to Learning Curve. My

name’s Kate and my co-host, Simon, is on the street today. I can’t live without my phone. Why? Because I can play games, listen to the radio or my MP3s, learn French, take a photo and do so many other things! Let’s talk about electronic devices. The camera is something many people can’t live without. Everywhere we go, we see people with a camera on a mobile phone or a tablet. Or a regular camera. About 123 million people in the U.S. have a digital camera! How many photos do people usually take? Just three photos per person every day can add up to about one trillion photos a year! Wow! That is a lot. So, what other things can’t people live without? How many people own a television? TVs are very popular all over the world. Americans have about 116 million televisions. Some people have three in their home! In the UK, that number is about 26 million. Wow! But now, people have tablets, smartphones and laptops. We can watch TV shows on the Internet and take photos on the same device! Why have two devices when you can have just one? Let’s talk to Simon and hear from our viewers. Simon, what do our fans say?

S = Simon, P = Parminder, V = Vincent

S: Well, Kate. I can’t live without music on my mobile, and my headphones, or earphones. I don’t like listening to other people’s music. When you have earphones, it’s good! Here comes someone now. Hello. I’m Simon from Learning Curve. And you are?

P: Parminder.S: You have a lot of bags with you today. What

technology can’t you live without?P: Well, I work for a big company and we use

all the top technology. So I can’t live without my laptop. It’s in that bag. Um, and my tablet. I can use a computer and a tablet at the same time. I have everything I need for my presentations. I can’t go anywhere without these things. I never do.

S: Wow! Is that heavy? So, do you carry these things every day?

P: Yes! Even at the weekend. Wherever I go, they’re with me! These are for work, but also for a bit of fun. And I can exercise on my way to work.

S: Thanks, Parminder. Wow! She can work out, too!V: Hey! You’re Simon from that show!S: Yes, I am. It’s called Learning Curve. Hello!

What’s your name?V: I’m Vincent. Um, I really like the show. You

and um, Kate, is it?S: Yes. Our question today is: What devices

can’t you live without?V: Ah well, that’s easy. My DVR.S: Why is that?V: Because I can record a show, like, right now!

I can cook, play my guitar, or do my favourite thing – drive my car. And when I get home, I watch TV at night. Everything’s recorded on the DVR.

S: That’s very interesting. What kind of car do you have?

V: Um, I’ll show you.S: OK, but ...V: I have a photo here. From 1972. Can’t live

without it. Nice meeting you.S: That’s all the time we have. Think about it.

What technology can’t you live without? I can live without a car. I take the Underground! What about you? See you next time on Learning Curve!
