Participants in this workshop will take away a range of strategies to support themselves or others in managing anxious thoughts and feelings. content elements This workshop will include: $ EULHI GHÀQLWLRQ RI DQ[LHW\ DQG D ORRN DW ZKDW KDSSHQV in the brain • Hands-on experimentation with a range of resources for supporting social and emotional wellbeing • Skills for managing anxiety including: meta-cognitive skills (thinking about how we think), deliberate attentional FRQWURO DJHQF\ JHWWLQJ LQ WKH GULYHU·V VHDW VHOIVRRWKLQJ and the mind/body connection, increasing tolerance, and distraction • Ideas for fun, respectful, simple activities covering a range of different learning styles (inside/outside, individual/group, active/quiet, body/mind) for adults, young people and children • Small and large group discussion and storytelling prompted by the various techniques including counting, colouring, movement, listing, tapping, alphabet tasks, PXVLF GUDZLQJ DIÀUPDWLRQV ELRPLPLFU\ FRS\LQJ WKH natural world) • Strengths-based, solution-focused brief therapy principles and skills including reframing, normalising, externalising and questioning techniques 7KH LQÁXHQFH RI FXOWXUH YRFDEXODU\ DQG PHWDSKRU on our experience of emotions like anxiety. practice knowledge The tools and strategies used in this workshop draw on strengths-based approaches to practice, solution- focused brief therapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), brain research, choice theory and positive psychology. The 50 activities used in Anxiety Solutions for Kids and Anxiety Solutions (two of the primary resources used in this workshop) are based on techniques used for many years with adults, youth and children by consulting psychologist and clinical nutritionist, Selina Bryne M.A.P.S. Participants will receive a reference list of research papers and a table identifying the practice base of the various techniques.
