BHUBANESWAR, Aug 22:

German luxury carmaker Audi will launchpetrol versions of all its existing models in Indiaby the first quarter of next year as it tries to adaptto changing market demand in the wake of ban onbig diesel cars and SUVs in Delhi-NCR.

The company estimates it may lose around Rs760 crore worth of sales this year due to the over-all impact on consumer sentiment created by thediesel ban and different excise rates for dieselvehicles, which was imposed in the Budget.

Audi India, which plans to launch an all-newversion of A4 sedan next month, will introducethe petrol variant of A6 sedan next week.

"This year has been a very difficult one ascustomers are confused due to the issues such asban of diesel in Delhi-NCR and different exciseduties imposed on those vehicles. They had post-poned purchases," Audi India Head Joe King saidhere.

He further said: "It has been a real challengechanging our business strategy overnight from apredominantly diesel to petrol due to an out of theblue decision by the NGT and the SupremeCourt."

It has resulted in customers from other regionsalso putting a question mark on diesel vehicles asthey were worried that such bans could alsoextend in those regions, King said. When askedabout impact on the company's sales, King said,the sales loss could be around 1,500-2,000 carsfor the full year. (PTI)

Audi to have petrol variants across portfolio by next year

NEW DELHI, Aug 22:

French auto major Renault today launched anew version of its small car Kwid in India pow-ered by 1.0 litre petrol engine priced up to Rs3.95 lakh (introductory price ex-showroomDelhi).

The company currently sells the Kwid withan 800cc (0.8L) engine priced between Rs 2.64lakh and Rs 3.73 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new 1.0 litre variant comes in two vari-ants priced at Rs 3.82 lakh and Rs 3.95 lakh,respectively.

Buyers, thus will have to shell out Rs 22,000more for the new 1,000 cc litre variant.

"With this launch, we look forward to wel-coming more customers into the Renault familyas we endeavor to aggressively build our pres-ence in India," Renault India Country CEO &Managing Director Sumit Sawhney toldreporters here. Kwid has been a success in thecountry with the company having alreadyretailed over 1.65 lakh units of the model sinceits launch last year.

The new variant of the hatchback comeswith a brand new 1.0 litre SCe engine which isoptimally designed for better performance.

It also comes with various features like sportdesigner graphics on the doors, pro-sense seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters amongothers. Commenting on the company's futureplans, Sawhney said: "Our roadmap for India isvery clear, with an immediate goal of achievinga market share of over 5 per cent by the end ofthis year." (PTI)
