Speaking, Reading, and Writing Skills
What is it?
• An audio recording and editing program
Possible uses…• Conducting interviews
– Oral history• Students ask follow-up questions (listening and speaking)• Interview recorded through Audacity• Increased student engagement and interest in writing• Students will be writing more, because they will have
clearer more focused ideas.• The purpose and audience for writing will be clear and
motivating.• Students will gain a resonating voice that will build
confidence in their writing.• This will be an eye-opening experience of the perspectives
their peers have on the subject.

To Open AudacityTo Open Audacity
• Go to the folder where Audacity is installed. On Windows this is usually C:\Program Files\Audacity. On Mac, this is usually your Applications folder.
• Double-click audacity.exe (Windows) or Audacity.app (Mac) to launch Audacity.
• On a Windows Network, open Application Explorer
• Click All
• Launch Audacity

Selection ToolSelection Tool
• Make sure the Selection ToolSelection Tool is selected
• Use the Mouse and highlight the sound on the track you want to edit or delete

Envelope ToolEnvelope Tool
• Make sure the Envelope ToolEnvelope Tool is selected – blue lines will appear
• Drag the Blue lines in or out to change the volume of the whole track

• Where I clicked to move in the line, white circles appear
• The volume will no longer be a straight line meaning the volume will change.
• Click inside the blue line near the white circle

Zoom ToolZoom Tool
• Make sure the ZoomZoom tool is selected
• Keep clicking until you are zoomed in as close as you want to be
• Click on the track with the magnifying glass
Drawing ToolDrawing Tool
• You need to have zoomed in very close. AudacityAudacity will let you know if you have zoomed in enough.
• Using the DrawingDrawing tool you can move the individual handles
Timeshift ToolTimeshift Tool
• The TimeshiftTimeshift tool is for when you have more than one trackmore than one track
• Move the track to where you want
• Make sure the Timeshift ToolTimeshift Tool is selected

• Press RecordRecord – to start recording
• Press StopStop – to stop recording
Playing SoundPlaying Sound
• Click Skip to StartSkip to Start – to put the cursor at the beginning of the sound or clickclick where you want to start from
• Click PlayPlay

• Select the sound you want and OpenOpen

Deleting SoundDeleting Sound
• Using the Selection ToolSelection Tool select the sound you want to delete
• Press the DeleteDelete key on your keyboard

• To have fun with the sound, select EffectEffect
• Play around with the settings for each effect to see what they do
• Select an Effect from the menu

To burn to an audio CD or use your sound in Movie Movie Maker, Maker, export asexport as WAVWAV..
