Circumference 200mm Book-ends, adjustable Wooden with brass and ivory (?) decoration. Two ends, which can be extended from 300mm to 580mm. A very unusual object. Book. Harriet Beecher Stowe Uncle Tom’s Cabin, or Life among the Lowly, Ward Lock & Co, London. Late 19thC. Good condition. Front inside cover has a certificate saying it was awarded to Opal Duncan as first prize for elocution in 1898 by Brougham Hill School, Wellington. Book. The Young Ladies Treasure Book: A Complete Cyclopedia of Occupations and Amusements Suitable to Ladies, Ward Lock & Co, London. Late 19thC. Heavily illustrated. Broken spine and some introductory pages missing, but more than made up for by the worthy advice for respectable ladies. Three books. Robert Browning, Dramatic Romances and Lyrics, 1897? The Poetical Works of Lord Byron: Miscellaneous poems, 1896. The Poetical Works of Lord Byron: Childe Harolde, Don Juan, 1896. All published by Walter Scott Ltd, London. Good condition. One has Charles Brasch’s name as owner on frontspiece; the other two have his mother’s name, Helene Fels. This trio of books seem to have, therefore, been part of the library of Brasch, NZ literary pioneer and founder of Landfall magazine. Book. John Addington Symonds, Studies of the Greek Poets, Smith Elder & Co, London 1873. Worn leather cover, reasonable condition. Three books. Selected Essays of De Quincey, Walter Scott Ltd, London 1895 Charles Dickens, The Uncommercial Traveller Chapman and Hall, London, 1895. (illustrated) The Poetical Works of Lord Byron, Gall and Inglis London c1880 Engraved illustrations. Fair condition.
