Some items bearing the Stuttgart auction sticker. The Tek Sing (meaning TrueStar) was sailing from Amoy to Jakarta in early 1822 with a large cargo, 200crew and 1,600 chinese passengers when she was shipwrecked on a reef withonly about 200 lives saved. This disaster has been called the ‘Titanic of theEast’ due to the very high loss of life. The site was discovered in the SouthChina Sea by Mike Hatcher and his team in 1999. The ensuing months sawwhat has been described as the largest quantity of Chinese porcelain everrecovered, and much was sold in Stuttgart at auction in November 2000.

The Sikhote-Alinmeteorite fell during daylight at 10:38 am local time on 12th February, 1947.Witnesses reported a fireball that was brighter than the sun. It came from outof the north, about 15 degrees east of north and descended at an angle of 41degrees. It left a trail of smoke and dust 20 miles long which lingered for severalhours. Light and sound of the fall were observed for two hundred miles aroundthe point of impact.

UK art market, acquired prior to 1980. LEGIO II Italica was founded in 165 or166 AD by Emperor Marcus Aurelius. In 171 AD it was stationed in Noricum(present day Austria and Slovenia) under the command of Pertinax, who wasemperor briefly in 193 AD. According to tile stamps, a camp was built by II Italicaat Lotschitz, near the important transport node at Celeia, before 175 AD. LegioII Italica accompanied Septimius Severus on his march to Rome, where he wasrecognized as emperor. Later, Emperor Diocletian formed a sub-unit whichbecame an independent legion, named II Italica Divitensium, and which playeda part in the march on Rome of Constantine I and the battle of the Milvian bridge(312 AD). Legio II Italica was still operational in the early 5th century AD.

A Note on Catalogue Dating and Condition Terms:In the present catalogue and the TimeLine Auctionswebsite, a variety of expressions may be used to describeour opinion of the date(s) of origin attributed to lots offeredat auction. An unqualified statement e.g. ‘6th century AD’means that in our opinion the lot dates from the 6thcentury AD. The phrase ‘Probably 6th century AD’ meansthat in our opinion the lot dates from the 6th century ADbut it is possible that it may be dated differently. Thephrase ‘Possibly 6th century AD’ means that in ouropinion the lot may date to the 6th century AD but there isa strong element of uncertainty in this attribution. Thephrase ‘After the Antique’ means that the lot may be ofrecent origin replicating an ancient style for decorativepurposes, but without any intention to pass the lot off asgenuinely ancient. Except when otherwise specified,when no date is offered, the lot may be of mixed dates(e.g. Iron Age, Roman and Mediaeval items offeredtogether in a single lot) or in our opinion the lot may be ofrecent origin. Please note that expressions relating to theextent of any restoration and the condition of the lots areused to describe our opinions of the lots.

SellersAll goods submitted to TimeLine Auctions Ltd for sale bypublic auction will be lotted and catalogued at thediscretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd.

Selling Commission:Standard Rate is 15% of the Hammer Price plus VAT atthe prevailing rate. Special Commission Rates may beapplied for individual items of significant value or forcollections, at the sole discretion of TimeLine AuctionsLtd.

Storage Charges:Daily or such other charges for storage of goodssubmitted for public auction may be levied at thediscretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd. Such charges mayinclude a charge for collection of goods from the Seller’shome/premises, if appropriate.

Insurance Charges:Daily or such other charges for insuring Seller’s goodsmay be levied at the discretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd.Such insurances and liability shall commence from thedate of receipt of any goods and shall expire at the timethe hammer falls; and will be limited in value to theamount of any reserve, or to the amount of the lowestimate, as relevant.

Other charges:Special charges for any unusual research, specialimaging, testing, consultation with external specialists,conservation, cleaning or other services in connectionwith any aspect that is considered necessary for theproper presentation of any goods offered for sale will belevied at the discretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd;however, the need for such services and costs will beadvised in advance.

Value Added Tax:Where applicable, Value Added Tax at prevailing rate(s)will be applied to all of the Selling Commission and otherCharges due from the Seller. Sellers resident outside ofthe United Kingdom or European Union should note thatImport VAT may be payable at the time of importation tothe United Kingdom on a valuation basis, with adjustmentmade after the auction, based upon the final HammerPrice(s).

Reserves:The Seller may set a Reserve Price, being the MinimumHammer Price at which the goods may be sold at thediscretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd.

Estimates:The setting of Estimates shall be at the discretion ofTimeLine Auctions Ltd; and the amount of any Estimateshall not be taken as being indicative of the true Value ofany Goods.

Unsold Lots:In the event of any Lot being unsold, no SellingCommission shall be payable unless that Lot is subject toa Reserve when a Selling Commission Rate of 5% of theReserve sum shall be payable. Charges for Storage,Insurance, or Other Services may be payable in allinstances, at the discretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd.Sellers are responsible for insuring any Lots that remainunsold, from the time the Hammer falls and sellers mustmake arrangements for collection of the Unsold goods

immediately after the auction ends. Additional costs fordelivery of Unsold goods to the Seller may be applied, atthe discretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd

Void Sales:In the event of any dispute, TimeLine Auctions Ltd shallhold the sale Void pending resolution and no monies shallbe paid over until the dispute is finalized. The Seller shallbe liable for the return of any monies paid over byTimeLine Auctions in the event of a dispute raised by theBuyer being upheld.

Acceptance of Selling Terms:By submitting any goods for sale by auction, the Seller isdeemed to accept all of the Terms and Conditions of Saleand to warrant that he/she is the legal and beneficialowner of all of the goods. The Seller agrees to fullyindemnify TimeLine Auctions Ltd against any claims.

Buyers/BiddersCaveat Emptor:The Buyer must fully satisfy himself as to the description,genuineness, condition or value of any Lot(s) and shallnot rely upon the Catalogue, images, or upon anystatement made by TimeLine Auctions Ltd regarding anyLot. TimeLine Auctions Ltd act solely as agent for theSeller and all matters pertaining to the sale of any Lot arematters between the Seller and Buyer.

Bidder Registration:All persons intending to bid at any auction, whether inperson or by Absentee Bid, shall Register their personaldetails with TimeLine Auctions Ltd prior to bidding. Buyersmay be asked to provide an acceptable form of proof ofidentity and proof of address. TimeLine Auctions Ltdreserves the absolute right to refuse to register any Bidderor to refuse any Bid at their sole discretion and withoutstating any reason. Bidders may register in advance ofthe date of any auction or on the day of the sale.

Agents: All bidders shall be deemed to be acting asprincipal in their bidding and shall be personallyaccountable for all bid amounts, premiums, VAT, and anyother costs. Should any bidder wish to appoint an agentto bid on their behalf, this must be authorised by TimeLineAuctions Ltd in advance of the sale and a deposit may berequired. Any such arrangements shall be subject tonormal registration requirements in addition.

Bidder Numbers:All Bidders will be allocated a Bidder Number which mustbe shown to the Auctioneer at the time of bidding andwhen the Hammer falls. Buyers are at all timesresponsible for their Bidder Number Card.

Absentee Bids:Although it is best for Bidders to attend the sale and tomake their Bids in person, at the request of a RegisteredBidder, TimeLine Auctions Ltd will exercise bids on behalfof any Bidder who is unable to attend the Sale.Instructions to Bid must be in writing and stipulate the LotNumber(s) and Maximum amount of the Bid(s). Bids to‘buy’ will not be accepted. The Auctioneer will executeAbsentee Bids at his/her discretion depending uponcompeting bids from the floor or elsewhere. In the eventthat two Absentee Bids of the same amount are received,then the one first received will have priority. All Bids willbe made at the lowest level possible. There is no chargefor this Service but Timeline Auctions Ltd will accept noliability for errors or for failing to make any Bid.

Internet Bidding:Live on-line bidding arrangements are available.Prospective bidders must register with the serviceprovider directly before the sale. TimeLine Auctions Ltdshall not be responsible for any technical or other failurethat might result in bids not being received.

Telephone Bidding:For Lots with a minimum estimate value above £400,telephone bidding arrangements may be available, at thediscretion of TimeLine Auctions Ltd and subject to priorarrangement. Telephone facilities are limited andprospective bidders who wish to use this service arestrongly advised to confirm the arragement well inadvance of the sale. TimeLine Auctions Ltd shall not beresponsible for any technical or other failures that mightresult in bids not being received.

Conduct of the Sale:The Auctioneer shall conduct the sale entirely at his/herdiscretion for all matters and his/her decision shall be finaland binding on all participants at the sale. The Auctioneermay execute Bids on behalf of absent Bidders or onbehalf of Sellers up to the amount of any Reserve.Bidding increments shall be at the discretion of theAuctioneer but shall generally be as set out below:From £0 to £100 - increments of £5From £100 to £500 - in increments £20From £500 to £1,000 - in increments of £50From £1,000 to £5,000 - in increments of £200From £5,000 - in minimum increments of £500 or atAuctioneer's discretion

Buyer’s Premium:The Buyer shall pay the Buyer’s Premium in addition tothe Hammer Price on all lots purchased. The Buyer’sPremium Rate shall be 15% and VAT will be payable, atthe prevailing rate, in addition.

Liability for Goods:The Buyer is responsible for all Goods purchased, fromthe time the Hammer falls. Any Goods not collected fromthe Sale venue on the day of Sale will be removed byTimeLine Auctions Ltd to a place of storage, at theirdiscretion. Storage Charges may become payable foruncollected goods. Unless noted in the Catalogue asbeing for ‘collection only’, shipping costs will be invoicedand must be paid, together with all sums due, beforegoods will be shipped.

Collection of Goods:Most Lots will be present at the Sale venue and may becollected immediately after the Hammer falls, on fullpayment being made. TimeLine Auctions Ltd, at thespecific request of the Buyer, will make arrangements toship goods to the Buyer’s Registered Address at suchcost as will be advised by TimeLine Auctions Ltd. CertainLots, by virtue of size or other difficulty, may not bepresent at the Sale venue and any Buyer will be requiredto make prompt arrangements for collection from astorage location designated by TimeLine Auctions Ltd.

Invoices:Invoices will be issued at the Sale venue or, for those notattending, shortly afterwards. Payment in full is requiredand funds must be fully cleared before any Goods may becollected or shipped.

Payment:Payment becomes due at the time the Hammer falls.Settlement of Invoices is required within 7 days of the dateof the Sale. Interest, at 5% above the prevailing LloydsTSB bank base rate, will be payable for late payment.TimeLine Auctions Ltd will accept payment by any of thefollowing methods:

Cash in Pounds Sterling – up to a maximum of £5,000 atany one SaleCash in Euros/$US – at the rate prevailing – up to amaximum of £5,000 (equivalent)Sterling Cheque – Goods will only be released uponclearanceDebit Card – to any amountCredit Card – to any amount – a 3% surcharge will beappliedBanker’s Draft – to any amount - by prior arrangementBank Transfer – to any amount - by prior arrangement

Export Licences:For all items potentially requiring an Export Licence, allBuyers with a Registered Address outside the UnitedKingdom will be required to sign an indemnity waiver oncollection of their goods. TimeLine Auctions Ltd will makeapplications for Export Licences on behalf of a Buyer,after full payment has been cleared, for any Lot, onrequest. There is no charge for this Service but protractedperiods may be required to complete the process. It is theBuyer’s sole responsibility to make any necessaryenquiries, prior to Bidding, regarding Export Licenceprocedures. The deferment of an Export Licence shall notbe grounds for cancelling the purchase.

Value Added Tax:Value Added Tax at the prevailing rate(s) will be payablein addition on the Buyer’s Premiums, shipping costs or onany other Charges made by TimeLine Auctions Ltd.Where so indicated in the Catalogue, VAT may be appliedto the Hammer Price for Lots to which the Auctioneer’sMargin Scheme does not apply or where Import VATapplies. Buyers with a Registered Address outside of theUnited Kingdom or European Union may be exempt fromsome aspects of VAT, provided that any Lots purchasedare shipped directly by TimeLine Auctions Ltd to theBuyer’s registered foreign address.

Disputes:In the event of any dispute, the Buyer must notifyTimeLine Auctions Ltd immediately, but in no case laterthan fourteen days after the date of the Sale, in writingand stipulating fully the ground for such dispute. Duringthe progress of any dispute, Timeline Auctions Ltd shallhold any and all monies paid by the Buyer until such timeas the matter is finalised. In cases where deliberateforgery is alleged, any such claim shall be subject toreview by TimeLine Auctions Ltd who may consult suchexperts as they deem appropriate. The responsibility forproof of forgery shall rest with the Buyer but disagreementbetween experts or the inability of an expert to express adefinite opinion shall not be sufficient grounds. Alldisputes shall be resolved in accordance with English law.

Acceptance of Buying/Bidding Terms:Any person bidding at any sale is deemed to have readand accepted these Terms in full and undertakes to fullyindemnify TimeLine Auctions Ltd against any claims.
