The Cocoon Salon embraces the main floor of Cocoon House - every room on this level opens to the central courtyard, The Atrium.
Inspired by the famous Hutong courtyards of ancient Beijing, this open atrium is the focal point of the house and visible from nearly every room. The glass walls of the courtyard open fully on three sides, combining the dining room and lounge to create a dramatic entertainment space.

Opening to the west of the atrium is a relaxed kitchen and dining room featuring a giant swamp Kauri dining table. Specially commissioned for the salon and is as much art as furniture.
Sitting at the table guests are cloaked in beauty. A dramatic John Pule Tapa cloth hangs above the fire place looking across to delights from the Cocoon sculpture collection on the opposite wall.

The formal lounge sits East of The Atrium in magnificent contrast to the light and casual dining room. In winter months a large open fire warms the space, but the room appears to glow all year round, basking in the golden hues from the spectacular McCahon that graces the far wall. The lounge is a perfect space for board meetings and is easily converted with the inclusion of our custom-built boardroom table.
All AV requirements and facilities for video conferencing are available for booking on request.

A large-scale print of the famous Jiangnan water village looks over this haven within Cocoon House. This cultural treasure by Wu Guangzhong sits behind the Tea master radiating timeless serenity to all those gathered at the tea table.
Guests seated at the table enjoy a remarkable view through the branches of the courtyard birch tree across to the Fornasetti Library.

Maori god Tu takes pride of place in this elegant alcove, looking out from the John Walsh painting Pare O Tūmatauenga.
The Tu boardroom is equipped with an AV projection and is ideal for small board meetings, break out groups, or uninterrupted work.

The lavish but ever so intimate Cocoon Bar is a hidden treasure of the house.
Tucked snuggly behind the Salon staircase, this most private escape has no windows to the outside world. Time has been known to stand completely still in this space. Feeling very much like a real cocoon, guests of the bar are protected from the outside world by a luxurious cloak of art, exotic whiskey and the finest wines.
