1. Introduction

1.1.1. The project started with Phase 1 in February 2011, defining a strategy for improvement of

energy efficiency for University Campus of American University of Central Asia “AUCA” in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

1.1.2. Within the first phase an overall reduction of thermal losses has been identified with a cost benefit analysis

To achieve proposed efficiency, detailed calculations have to be undertaken. These calculations include requirements for zoned spaces.

1.1.3. This report as second phase of consultancy shows detailed calculation of balances and

zones for Lighting External gains Internal gains Heating requirements Cooling requirements Airhandling and ventilation requirements

1.1.4. Furthermore, recommendations for construction and recommendations for geothermal use

of energy (borehole grid / heating pumps) are explained.

2. Balance Calculation

2.1. General In the following, the calculations for determining the energy balance of the building are described and specified using applicable equations. Prior to determining the energy balance the building is divided into zones. Areas are grouped together into zones where they have the same type of use and where are no significant differences in the mode or other zone criteria.

2.2. Requirements related to the energy balance Principles of the energy balance are described in terms of energy needs and delivered energy for all types of conditioning or all types of building services (heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting). Hot water supply has not been taken into consideration yet. The energy being delivered is calculated by energy requirements of the building as well as system losses due to control, distribution and storage.

3. Zoning 3.1. The building has been divided into zones (partitioned) prior to carrying out the balance calculations.

All relevant characteristics are determined once for each zone. The most important characteristics of a zone are same use, orientation and same mode of conditioning in all spaces it comprises. Allocation of zones is shown as follows:

4. Energy balance 4.1. General

Determination of energy requirements results directly from conditions of use as well as from utilities being provided. Energy requirement is to be classified as follows: - Lighting; electrical energy required to ensure adequate lighting of building, zone or room - Heating; quantity of supplementary heat to be provided to the building, zone or room in a

demand-controlled manner in order to maintain the internal set-point temperature. - Cooling; quantity of supplementary cooling energy to be provided to the building, zone or room

in a demand-controlled manner in order to maintain the internal set-point temperature. - Ventilation; amount of energy which has to be transferred to or from ventilation or AC-system

for heating and cooling in order to maintain the required air quality.

11. General recommendations for construction 11.1. For typical exterior construction, the following sketch is drafted by the architect:

Comments: - A window-ledge has to be considered outside - Respecting seismic requirements, the masonry should be choosen at low density. (U-

value is calculated based on concrete backer, therefore any reduction in weight will have a positive impact.)

- Waterproof membrane shall be avoided

11.2. Calculation od layers

In general, the external wall consists of 250 mm reinforced concrete [or any other masonry / the lighter, the better]. Instead of a patching mortar, an adhesive layer of synthetic resin should be used for mounting Styrofoam (12 mm) layers. The reinforced plaster consists of cementitius plaster with reinforcement mats and a final topcoated exterior rendering.

Temperatures within the construction are shown as follows:

Temperature

Interior [cm] exterior

This graph shows the temperature (black line) with an ambient interior temperature of +20°C and an ambient exterior temperature of -10°C. The blue line shows the temperature of the dew point. At this temperature water vapor condenses. As long as the temperature is beyond the dew point temperature, no condensate occurs. The graph shows no contact of the lines, therefore no water has to be expected within the construction layers. U-value: 0.30 W/m2K Moisture: 0 g/m2 Heat storage capacity: 151 Wh/m2K Temp. surface inside: 18.8 °C Temp. surface outside: -9.6 °C The temperature on the inner surface is 11.7°C and surface moisture is 85% based on above mentioned conditions. Mould formation already starts at a moisture of 80%! Mould has to be expected!
