PROJECT NAME:element MOAB

DESCRIPTION:

My inspiration for this hotel came directly from southern Utah’s rusted rock formations and clear blue skies that attract tourists to Moab’s national parks to hike, bike and climb year-round.The layout and structure of the main building was heavily infl uenced by the topography of the surrounding environment. I selected natural, raw materials to compliment the type of guests expected to stay at Element Moab and paired such furnishings with a cool color pallet to enhance the vibrant coloring of the outdoors.

DESCRIPTION:

Element Moab is located just 30 miles from Main Street and is nestled up on a red sandy slope gazing directly at the famous Amasa Back range. With the sun setting behind the hotel you are sure to get breath-taking views from any spot in the hotel looking directly at the orange glow of Amasa Back.

DESCRIPTION:

With the surrounding environment being so spectacular I selected colors and materials that wouldn’t distract from the beauty of the landscape.To enhance the drama outside I chose a neutral color palette complimented by raw, paired-down materials and furnishings. I put an emphasis on the use of texture and scale to make guests feel comfort and protection against the grandeur of the outdoors.

DESCRIPTION:

Bottomless canyons and lofty skylights created the bridges and pathways that inspired me to design the layout the way I did. By fracturing the existing fl oorplan I was able to create corridors and walkways that allow guests to explore the hotel amenities like they would the outdoors.

DESCRIPTION:

Just off the lobby sitting area is a secluded patio for guests to relax and meditate. Colorless and refi ned, this space is meant to be a refuge to revive guests from their strenuous outdoor activities.

The restaurant is specifi cally designed for the demographic of our hotel guests. Communal dining in a cave-like space encourages interaction among guests.

DESCRIPTION:

A small scale grocery/retail was incorporated into the design of the hotel so that guests can conveniently gather any last minute snacks and supplies for their all day hikes and rides.

DESCRIPTION:

Shelf Reliance is a freeze-dried food storage company that was preparing to open their fi rst public showroom. My inspiration for this design was the frozen food craze and the lifestyle and design of the 1950’s.

FURNITURE AND MATERIALS

DESCRIPTION:

I selected materials that were fresh and modern that imitated furniture seen in the mid-century. I branded the entire showroom using colors from their newly launched THRIVE product and found ways to designate individual spaces by dropping ceilings and saturating them with color.
