PRESIDENT’S MESSAGEIn 1945, community leaders developed “The Scranton Plan”, to serve as a foundation for economic and workforce development throughout the region. This year will mark a milestone for The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, commemorating 75 years of business attraction, sustainment and growth. The present-day Scranton Plan continues that philosophy establishing ambitious five-year work plans including marketing strategies, workforce development tactics, business development and entrepreneurial support. Just as in 1945 The Scranton Plan still measures success by job creation and retention, and community investment. And like those founders, our community leaders have consistently and enthusiastically responded to these efforts with investments of time and treasure.The Scranton Plan operating structure was modernized in 1981, and with the help of the Chamber and its affiliates, has completed 433 projects, created and retained more than 47,600 jobs and facilitated $2.6 billion in community investment.

This report offers a summary of accomplishments during the past five years (2016–2020) and outlines an aggressive new five-year work plan through 2025.

�PharmaCann Penn Plant LLC, purchased 18.28 acres in Scott Technology Park to construct a 65,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art pharmaceutical-grade medical marijuana growing and processing facility.

PROVIDED CORPORATE LOCATION ASSISTANCE TO INVENERGY, CREATING $1.2 BILLION COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

The 1,485-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle electric generation facility has the capacity to power

more than 1 million American homes.

Recognized as the Economic Development Large Agency of the Year by the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association (PEDA).

Randmar Development LLC purchased 1.76-acre parcel of land at the Mount Pleasant Corporate Center, for the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art Sheetz Convenience Store.

Out of market business development meetings conducted.590

Chewy, a pet supply e-commerce business, leased 700,000 square feet of industrial space bringing 1,000 jobs to the Valley View Business Park.

IMPLEMENTED TARGET MARKETING STRATEGIES

TO THE NEW JERSEY AND NEW YORK METRO AREAS

Recruited three companies collectively creating 780 manufacturing jobs and a $34,700,000 community investment.

Crystal Window and Door Systems manufactures replacement and new-construction vinyl and aluminum door and window products and high-end fenestration systems. Company purchased 226-acre property and existing 336,500 square foot industrial building in Benton Township. Select Tissue of Pennsylvania, Long Island, NY based company produces its own line of commercial tissue products and branded labels for companies such as Redner’s Markets, Big Lots and Cascade. The firm purchased the former Jerry’s Sports Center distribution facility in Vandling. SoCafé, nationally-known coffee manufacturer and distributor relocated and expanded its operations from Newark, NJ to the borough of Dunmore, purchasing the existing 116,000 sq. ft., Grove Textiles building.

Concrete Countertop Solutions, a manufacturer of cast-in-place indoor and outdoor concrete countertops and concrete forms for the swimming pool industry, constructed a 12,000-square-foot office and manufacturing facility within the Scott Technology Park.

�The Educator in the Workplace Program equips K–12 educators to bring real time business experience into the classroom. To date 100% of the Lackawanna County Public School districts and 92 educators have been connected with local businesses to develop a talent pipeline.

�Laurie Mecca, Riverside School District, participates in the logistics and transportation cohort at Kane Is Able.

Utilizing the Next Gen Industry model, The Scranton Plan is addressing workforce needs of our employers by hosting Industry-led, community-supported partnerships that strengthen regional economies and connect people to jobs.

SUSTAIN

Lackawanna County purchased the former historic Globe Store Building. Intended to breathe new life into the downtown core, create foot traffic, and generate opportunities for downtown businesses, employees and residents the Chamber sold the former Globe Store building to Lackawanna County where they will consolidate departments and services.

Integrated Capital Management established modern professional offices and increased investment and staff in Greater Scranton.

�The company expanded its corporate headquarters into a newly constructed office suite within The TekRidge Center.

SLIBCO constructed a 20-acre professional plaza with four, fully developed, pad-ready sites and traffic signal to accommodate the development of commercial services at Jessup Small Business Center and Valley View Business Park.

Cardinal Laminated Glass, a division of Cardinal Glass Industries, constructed a new 200,000-square foot manufacturing plant, in Valley View Business Park.

�Cardinal Laminated Glass invested more than $20 million in their new Archbald Borough manufacturing plant.

Helped Net Driven grow, and attracted private capital investment in downtown when purchased by Internet Brands, a fully integrated online media and software services organization, retaining 60 jobs in downtown Scranton.

Net Driven, an IGNITE Program graduate is growing its Scranton presence, expanding its corporate footprint in the Scranton Enterprise Center.

�Pasqualichio Brothers, Inc., an industry leader in the manufacturing of value-added gourmet meats, constructed a 40,000-square foot manufacturing and warehouse facility in Valley View Business Park.

�Pasqualichio Brothers is a third-generation, Scranton-based, family owned business.

Coordinated the America’s Best Communities application and planning and secured national finalist status for the City of Scranton. The ABC award allowed The Scranton Plan to draft a strategic plan with a community vision, based upon the growth of a mixed-use Eds & Meds Innovation District.

�Bedrock Technology, a multidisciplinary information technology company graduated from the IGNITE Incubator Program, expanding its operations and job creation within The TekRidge Center.

�Bedrock Technology celebrate corporate expansion at The TekRidge Center.

�The Scranton Enterprise Center saw $750,000 in building improvements.

�Building renovations were designed to create work spaces where tenants can collaborate and have access to state-of-the-art technology.
