71st Annual MeetingNovember 27 – December 1, 2018

Welcome MessageDear Colleagues, On behalf of the California Society of Pathologists (CSP), I am proud to present our 71st Annual Meeting, “Seminars in Pathology.” The 2018 Annual Meeting will be held in beautiful San Francisco at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero from November 27 - December 1, 2018. Join distinguished speakers from across the country and participate in this outstanding educational program along with fellow pathologists. The courses, tutorials and, lectures are on an array of topics that include Kidney and Testis pathology, Endometrial Carcinoma, Lower GI tract pathology and Breast and Thyroid pathology and important new concepts that can be applied to your daily practice. Courses will provide opportunities to receive Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits and some will provide Self-Assessment Module credit (SAMs). This year’s program highlights include a presentation by Dr. Eric Glassy and Dr. Lida Hariri, who will present the Special Lecture on Digital Imaging and In Vivo Microscopy on November 30. Don’t forget to register early to reserve your seat at the highly sought-after video tutorials where space is limited. As always, the California Society of Pathologists is here to serve and support you, the practicing pathologist, in all its activities. The CSP recognizes the importance of providing a forum for evolving practice management perspectives, and to communicate challenging ideas that protect and reinforce our specialty. The advocacy work related to government regulations that affect the way we practice pathology is unique to the CSP and is crucial to our profession. With your participation and support, pathology will flourish at the heart of medical practice. Look for more information regarding the 2018 Annual Meeting and CSP membership on our website: www.calpath.org. Hope to see you in San Francisco! Respectfully,

James B. Carry, MD CSP President

Next Generation Microscopy: In Vivo Optical Imaging and Its Role in Pathology PracticeLida Hariri, MD, PhDIn vivo optical microscopy (IVM) provides microscopic optical images in patients, in real time, without tissue removal. This has tremendous potential to impact patient care, including in vivo disease detection, biopsy guidance, diagnosis, and resection margin assessment, in a variety of organ systems and disease types. Due to its microscopic resolution, IVM has close parallels with traditional histology, and requires knowledge of the histomorphologic features of many disease entities, which is a skill set inherent to

Objectives:• Explore current efforts in IVM in a variety of clinical

applications, including the GI tract, lung, skin, and breast

• Discuss the impacts IVM could have on the practice of pathology in the short-term and long-term future
