Jar Lights - Year 7 Product DesignMiss Speed’s Year 7 Product Design classes worked really well on their latest project: Jar light; and were able to take home their project just in time for Christmas.
The project is a new addition to Year 7 Product Design curriculum which involves students in learning about about how to carefully solder their own circuit, follow health and safety rules as well as learning about sustainability in making use of an item which would
have gone to waste or the recycling bin.
All of Miss Speed’s groups worked quickly and diligently in order to finish the jar light to a high standard before the Christmas break. They were even able to decorate a changeable strip of acetate for the inside of the jar to make it usable for the future. A sustainable product which can be used for decoration or a night light.
Mock exam results eveningStudents in Year 11, accompanied by their parents/ carers, collected their mock examination results on Thursday evening after listening patiently to advice about revision, motivation and mind-sets from Mr Haigh and Mr Mackintosh.
The students were advised (amongst other things) to file their phones, eat their frogs and send their x-boxes to grandma for a holiday. There was also research-based advice about effective approaches to revision and strong messages about the difference that can be
made to performance over the next few months with the right level of commitment and hard work and the right mind-set.
Mr Haigh and Mr Mackintosh would like to thank parents and carers for their support in attending the evening, and their ongoing support for students.

NOTES
Dear Parent/Carer
NCS (National Citizen Service) attended school today to introduce the NCS programme to all Year 11 Students. We have been working closely with the school to ensure we’re able to offer as many as possible of their students the opportunity to take part. NCS is a government-backed programme for those aged 16-17, which takes place during the school holidays. It’s a great way for young people to learn the skills for work and life they need to succeed in the future, whilst having an amazing time. So far, more than 200,000 young people have already taken part. This is an opportunity you do not want your son or daughter to miss out on!
Our next programmes are running in the Summer holidays for students who are in Year 11 & 12. Young people will be in teams with their friends and other students from local schools and colleges. Details of the programme are outlined below:
What happens on NCS? • Taster Events: Meet the NCS staff and other young people who will be taking part in the programme in your area before you go away.• Week 1: Outward bound residential to focus on team work, problem solving skills and pushing personal boundaries (5 days).• Week 2: A second residential to learn independent living skills and to learn about their local community (5 days).• Week 3 & 4: Work from a local community base to plan and implement a project to make a difference in their local community.• Graduation: Celebrate their NCS achievements and be presented with a signed certificate from the Prime Minister.
NCS costs £50, with all accommodation and meals covered during the residential phase. We may be able to offer bursaries to those who need financial support.
All students were asked to fill out an interest form. We’ll then give them a call to tell them a bit more about NCS and how they can get involved, and to answer any questions you might have.
If you want to find out more in the meantime or are interested in signing up please visit www.ncsingeus.co.uk or speak to your nominated NCS champion: Mr Vincent

SPORT
FootballSaturday morning football got off to a flying start with a block fixture against Manchester Grammar school. At junior level the games were very competitive with Wilmslow winning three and drawing one of the five games.
Highlights were at U13s where there was a total of 18 goals scored as our A team won 6-4 and our B team won 5-3. At senior level the 2nd XI lost 4-2 whilst the first team fielded a depleted team and still managed to come away with a 2-1 win. On Wednesday afternoon the senior boys travelled to Liverpool to play a league fixture against a previously unbeaten Maghull side. After a tough first half our boys finally got themselves into the match and proved to be too strong in the end, scoring four goals and winning the match 4-1.
NetballOn Wednesday the senior netball girls played Alderley Edge in a league fixture, putting in a solid performance and winning 35-10.
At junior level, the U12A and U13A played Hartford High School winning both fixtures comfortably; 20-5 and 23-4 respectively.
