DETERMINING LOCATION AND ORIENTATIONThe scoreboard should be positioned so that the greatest number of spectators can easily view it.

However, before installing the poles or beamsto which the scoreboard will be mounted also give consideration

to the best orientation of the scoreboard should the system be used to score a daytime or afternoon game.

The scoreboard should be positioned so that sunlight does not glare off of its face. In the U.S.A., we

recommend placement of scoreboards on the South or Westside ofthe field. Local building and sign codes

may also determine where the scoreboard must be mounted and which direction it must face. Consult with the

local building or zoning departmentbeforeinstalling the scoreboard.

INSTALLING THE MOUNTING POLES/BEAMS. The following information for installing the mounting poles/beams is for suggestions only. Local

codes, field placement, scoreboard options, customer preference, and other special considerations

will determine the above ground height and total length of the poles/beams. The center to center

pole/beam spacing should not be changed.

Install the three (3) mounting poles/beams (supplied by the customer) on the field 14’-0” (fourteen

feet, zero inches) center to center with 20’-6” of pole/beam above ground (refer to the installation

diagram below). If a sponsor panel is to be mounted above the scoreboard, leave 23'-6” of

pole/beam above ground (an additional 30”).The poles/beams must beset into concrete footers.

Wheninstalling the poles/l-beams that support the scoreboard, it is important to keep the spacing

accurate and the faces straight. If you are using beams, a good way to keepthe facesstraight is to

clamp a length of the 3.5” X 18’ angle to the first and middle beams and the middle and third beams

as they are placed, and if necessary, provide bracing until the concrete has cured. The poles/beams

should be allowed to stand overnight for the concrete to cure enough to support the scoreboard.

Makesure the poles are level and plumb. If the face of a pole/beam (either at the top or bottom of the

mounting points of the scoreboard)is not straight, shims will be needed to continuethe installation.

The required dimensionsfor the footers vary from city to city and state to state depending onthesoil

conditions, scoreboard size, and the building and sign codesfor your area. Consult with local building

officials for the required pole sizes and footer construction regarding this installation. A local

architect, structural engineer, or sign installer may also be a sourceof assistance.

Attacha lift device to the top angleiron of the left section and stand the section upright.

1 Remove the screws securing the access doors, if previously installed, on the left side of sectionA andtheright side of section B, if viewing the scoreboard from the rear. (For access door

locations, seeillustration below.)

2 Place one of the supplied bushings in the hole between the two scoreboard sections, andtighten one of the supplied ring nuts onto each end of the bushing. (See Figure 5-1 below)

Repeatthe installation for each remaining section.

3 Oncethe crossover bushingsareinstalled, all wiring harness connections should be made

between cabinets before the access doors are replaced. Inside each set of access doorsconnectall wiring harnesses between cabinets. For each set of harness connections between

scoreboard sections there will be one (1) ribbon cable connection and multiple powerconnections. When making the ribbon cable connections between cabinets, ensurethat the

RED STRIPESLINE UPwith one another whenthe cables are connected. (See Figure 5-2below) When making the power connections, each female power connector should mate with

one male power connectorin the other section. PLEASE NOTE:It makesnodifference which

female connector mates with what male connector.

RUNNING/CONNECTING THE CONTROL CABLE(For scoreboards with Wireless Remote Control, skip this step.)

The control cable may be buried with or without conduit if it is direct burial-rated. If it is not direct

burial-rated cable, then it must be buried in sealed, watertight conduit. The sameis true for the

electric cable powering the scoreboard. The two maybeburied in the same trench but they must be

kept at least 4-6” apart. If conduit is required for both, separate conduits must be used. The control cable should run from the scoreboard to a location that is within 20 feet of the

scorekeeper’s location. Here, the supplied junction box cover should be installed in a 2x4, single-gang junction box. The keyboard will connect to the receptacle on the junction box cover via the

included 20-ft. control cable.

At the scorekeeper’s location:

1. Bring the control cable into a 2x4 single-gang junction box located within 20 feet of the

scorekeeper.2. Connect the leadsinside the junction box to those on the junction box cover using the crimp-on

butt connectors already attached to the leads on the junction box cover. Connectthe leadsinthe control cable to those on the junction box cover according to the label on the junction box

cover.

NOTE: If the colors of the wires in the control cable differ from those referenced on the labelor shownin the following diagrams, make a note of what color lead on the junction box cover

you connect to what color lead in the control cable. Keep this information for reference when

connecting the other end of the control cable to the terminal block inside the scoreboard.

3. Secure the junction box coverto the installed junction box.

At the scoreboard:

1. Remove the signal/poweraccess doorlocated on the back of the scoreboard. For access door

location, refer to the diagram on the following page.2. From the ground, run the control cable through sealed, rain tight conduit then through rain-

tight conduit fitting into the left side of the signal cable/power access door and into the

scoreboard.

RUNNING/CONNECTING THE ELECTRICAL SERVICE

NOTE: IT IS RECOMMENDED TO HAVE A LICENSED, QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN RUN THEELECTRICAL SERVICE AND CONNECTIT TO THE SCOREBOARD IN ACCORDANCEWITH THEDIAGRAM ON THE. FOLLOWING PAGE. A WATERTIGHT, NON-FUSIBLE DISCONNECTSWITCH, A 20-AMP GROUND FAULT INTERRUPTER, AND A SAFETY GROUND SHOULD BEINSTALLED FOR EACH 20-AMP CIRCUIT CONNECTED TO THE SCOREBOARD. A 120-VOLTCIRCUIT MUST ALSO BE INSTALLED IN A STANDARD DUPLEX OUTLET AT THESCOREKEEPER’S LOCATION FOR THE CONTROLLER’S 12-VOLT DC WALL TRANSFORMER.IF AN EXTERNAL BATTERY PACK WAS PURCHASED WITH THE CONTROLLER, THIS OUTLETBECOMES OPTIONAL.

1. The scoreboard has a %” knock-out on the lower right corner for bringing in the electricalservice. It can be enlarged if the conduit size is %”. This is where the conduit from the power

source needsto terminate.

2. The connections are standard black, white, and green (ground). Replace the cover when

complete.
