Introduction

• Beam Instrumentation Consolidation Domains– Replacement of outdated electronics

• ~ 20 years lifetime for most systems

• Beyond this maintenance & repair is difficult– Increasing number of failures

– Components required no longer available

– Rely on limited stock of spares

– Replacement of radiation damaged components• Beamline components typically over 20 years old in high radiation areas

– Spares for mechanical systems• Project started during LS1 to identify all beamline components & class

then in terms of risk to operation

• Critical items identified & being consolidated on all machines

R2E pays for development of radiation tolerant tunnel components & EP fellows developing single mode fibre transmission system. R2E fellow foreseen for production of these components recently cut – but essential to the project!

• CONS pay for the production, non-radiation tolerant electronic components, crates & infrastructure

• Awaiting outcome of decision

• North Area Consolidation– Huge effort by BE-BI, EN-EA & TE-ABT to define the needs for

consolidation throughout the North Area and its primary lines• BI-EA working group set-up to agree on scope & define priorities

– Input now provided to North Area consolidation project with BI needs• Priorities still to be clearly defined

• Consolidation of the LHC BPM System– Need to ensure finance for R2E fellow to complete the production and

test of up to 10,000 laser transmitter/receivers.
